BAOR

November 23, 2015

A message from our newest member but by no means our youngest! Do National Servicemen receive a veterans badge? There is no medal for us cold war warriors and judging by the fact that only last year the brave survivors of the Arctic convoys were honoured there will not be until there are only a handful of us left.  The Royal BritishLegion sell commemorative medals from the era ie National Service and BAOR service but I am not sure what the general opinion is of them. They sell for £42 and funds go to RBL.

Message Body:
Can you tell me if National Service personnel were given any recognition for their two years service in the BAOR. I served at Osnabruk from 1954/56 my serial #23006013. I have attempted through other sites to get information without success, I am now in my eighties and wonder if I am also entitled to be an army vet.
Kindest Regards

Anyone who served in the UK Armed Forces is entitled to the Veterans Badge.  See the website Veterans UK for how to apply.   BAOR medals are only available for private purchasers.  RBL have pointed out that they should not be worn alongside issued medals.
