John don't forget Rod Stewart ,he was a bit of rocker in his day ,and look at the birds he pulled ( money) . Yes the clean life of "yellow suitcases" and the occasional Grouse hasn't done any harm so far ,other than the backache, short sighted ,snoring, farting,to name a few ,life's great .

Yep got my ears tested on leaving ,30% disability £240 a month tax free ,better still 2k towards funeral costs,as an American would say a disabled veteran. All them hours shooting a weapon prior to ear defenders ,but the look of a person saying something you can't hear due to hearing loss can be a pain . Helps in old age I suppose .

I got a one off payment of £1470, real chuffed at the time until I found out that others at Walton Jail where I worked got £4000 and were bloody batmen in the Guards who had never fired a weapon in their 2 years National Service !  5 years later I received a letter from the MOD stating that, in their opinion my hearing had not deteriorated & therefore no further claim would be entertained !! How they could possibly assess me without another hearing test astounded me, but subsequent communications proved fruitless - they wouldn't listen ( no pun intended !) , the case was closed ! In comparison Bob, you got a brilliant result, I'm green with envy, especially considering I played all of Queen's loud music at full blast on the journey to the hearing test ( they'd said to remain quiet !! ) to try and make out I was worse. Anyway, I now wear hearing aids , glasses too, dreading what'll be next on the list ! John (JKW)

John what it was my brother-laws brother ( what a mouthful) was a nine mile sniper for 30 odd years and just after I'd been compensated for a finger he informed me of an article in the Liverpool Echo, hearing test for ex service men . Got an appointment at the Manchester ENT hospital, did the various testing ,came out with 30% hearing loss ( I'd did an aircrew medical in Netheravon so my hearing etc was on file ) um arr um are couple of months later got a couple of grand ,then nearly a year later classified permanent etc then a monthly payout ,which has increased as the years go by . I've tried aids but they are uncomfortable for ears ( just shake and nod at the right times when listening) and the £££shops reading glasses do ,well so far were as the wife sight is shitty ,but who said getting old is a dawdle. Now the first celeb to depart is the "Father" from MASH tv series 84,mmmmm being greedy I'll take 90 . Now off to Manchester and tomorrow Goa got to  get some sun now it's snowing here in Kelkheim bbbrrrrr

Bob L,   You really were crapped on from a great height ! Hearing aid batteries are free for life on the NHS anyway, providing you have NHS hearing aids, which are "spotty dog" by the way, being fully digital and almost invisible. My latest free NHS ones are Siemens, & being German really are the "dogs doo dahs".  Looks like the luckiest of us all though is Bob Riley, a payout AND a big monthly pension - no wonder winter holidays in Goa are the norm for him !! Bob Riley, Just a thought - were you not a radio man ? Those C42's must have been louder than a 120mm to affect your ears so much !?! My 3 years at the GUNNERY SCHOOL in Lulworth must have been quiet compared to those pesky radio sets !! PS Enjoy your time in the sun - it's minus 4 here tonight !! John (JKW)
