The Events Calendar for 2018 is now under 'Events'. Sad to note that Nunshigum 75 Saturday 13th April 2019 will be the last Dinner organised by the NW & W Branch.

Where does it state that the last Dinner organised by the Branch will be in '19 Freddy ? What is the reason, as I always thought they were well attended ?  John (JKW)

I would like to know where this news emanated from, I realise that all members are getting older, and maybe some cannot do9 the marching bit  but the northwest branch have always had the best attended meetings with people coming from all over UK and much further afield, there is an AGM coming up soon that may put that suggestion into a cocked hat, having said that it would help if some of the  ex 3rd Carabiniers   would find the time to attend at least some of these important dates, some I must say are conspicuous by their absence,  this is the 75th anniversary of the last major battle honour of the 3rd Carabiniers, it should also be pointed out that far more eminent historians have said that the battle of Nunshigum was of more importance than that  of Waterloo, we shall see what happens on this latest defence review, there is a possibility that the Scots DG will go to the wall, sorry to  DRONE on but there is the all telling word, ( I wonder what will happen to all that silver) .

I requested some of the timings for the various events from Peter Farley and at the end of his mail he added the bit about Nunshigum 75 Dinner being the last. Apologies as I assumed it was common knowledge within the NW &W Branch. Freddy

Just to clarify a couple of things, Bob makes the point that attendance at major events such as Nunshigum could be better attended.  We do have a hardcore who regularly attend NW Branch functions to whom the committee are extremely grateful.  Peter Farley was criticised in some quarters for first dinner he organised and it took some persuasion before he agreed to carry on.  Bob will be aware that Peter has tried to enlist help to  organise the dinner but none was forthcoming.  None of us are getting any younger, and in the light of Peters recent health problems, he has decided that Nunshigum 75 will be his finale.  With no obvious volunteer to take one the duty of organising the dinner, then it probably will be the last.  The branch will carry on until there are none of us left to meet unless the MOD swings the axe earlier and Scots DG is disbanded.

No matter what happens to the Scots DG and even if Nunshigum is finished as an event for dining I'm sure that all who have the ability to attend the November reunion will make it happen. It maybe nearly 50 years since I had the privilege of serving with some of you guys in one of the best Regiments I served in ( 3 in total) so optimistic Bob Riley has his flight booked .
