last year I promised Freddie that I keep things rolling on this site ,yep some of what I post is  yuk and my English language is need of inspiration and my grammar hey I left school nearly 6 decades ago and was lucky I could read and write. So what's this post about ?? well guys it's about US ( not America) we members you me , yesterday was May 8 th ,OK it was V.E day also it was day I joined the Regiment in Detmold a young 17 year old escaping Merseyside of the early 60's , 53 years a life time ago. Being tallish I nearly got the Welsh Guards but Sgt Oliver ( wiggy) recruited me into the 3rdCarabiniers and met other members at Catterick who were out of the Welsh hills with funny accents oh a big Geordie Pete Clarke (RIP) ,OK you've been there and got the tea shirt . If you use Shakespeare ," we lucky few ,we band of brothers " but at the next get together look around and consider the others who are attending ,since our demob we are spread all over the UK and some abroad like myself . As with myself there are guys we've known and kept in touch with since leaving the army , there were guys I went to school with back in Birkenhead the likes of Bob Lewis or Derek Peers who I served in 2 regiments ( Carbs/14/20 ) who are attendees . I look at my grandchildren growing up in this technical age and remember my early years and surmise they are introvert no face to face communication solitary ,pity a great pity not having friendships that have lasted decades like members or to exact ex members of the Regiment .  In some cases we never served in the same Sqn and we had real close mates and some cases they have for one reason or other have decided not to attend reunions , for me that's their loss meeting mates who ran around Soltau or Mammas in Detmold or Sennerlager or various towns in N I who paraded behind the Standared on Nunshigum parades or November for fallen comrades ,those times are who you are today and when one of our brothers meets his maker like Colin just a few weeks ago or Dick Teese from another time ,makes us think of happier times of our youth . Now I'm going finish but before I go I'd like to thank you all for being you ,mates friends life long comrades and hope this site carries on for decades to come ....See you in November
