Bob,  I only went to see Tranmere once, and the best thing I saw all match was the thunder and lightning  storm taking 10 minutes to get over onto N Wales, right over our heads. As for Sterling, blame his agent, cos now, since agent and player are being greeeedy, they have told the world that they want  one million pounds plus a week salary for Sterling - this means that therefore the American owners of LFC can now say that they will NOT consider any offer below £1000 million for the player himself. If I was his boss, I would take the risk and let him stew in the boot room for ever. And not pick him to play above the 2nd year apprentices matches. Methinks the agent has signed Sterling's fate of having to stay at LFC, cleaning the boots of the first year apprentices for the next 20 years. Nobody in their right minds would pay that much, he could break his leg in his first match...It DOES work both ways eh? And logic says that I am not being mad in what I say, the sums are almost perfect....

I personally feel many footballers are paid grotesquely obscene salaries for doing grotesquely little. Before someone lectures me on the income such players can help bring to clubs, their limited shelf life, their star allure for the paying fans et al I know all that. i still think they are vastly overpaid. We live in a crazy world with even crazier priorities in life. A footballer can get paid (note I don't say "earn") several million£s  pa. A young guy, often the same age or younger gets paid £19k pa for risking his life in Afghanistan or wherever. £19k is what many footballers get paid per day! Leaving aside footballers for a moment, over 20 hospital bosses in England get paid in excess of £250k pa. The PM gets paid £148k pa. What is that all about?? Sterling should be sent to the greedy bin for a long time in my opinion.I know football is a cut throat business and everyone is out to get the best deal for themselves but it is time sanity prevailed and a fee and salary limit was reintroduced to stop all this nonsense. Controversial perhaps but I must point out in my defence I know the square root of nothing about football. Yes I; know it shows!! have a great weekend everyone!!

Football is no longer the sport of the normal citizens, and watched by the working man, it is run by self important little morons, who pay even smaller morons to run around (sometimes) kicking a football about for 90 minutes, (if they actually turn up) and receive sums of money which the paying public can only dream about. I know that there ARE players who do their best to win fairly, and receive vast sums, but they say that the amount is because their playing days are limited by ability, safety, and not suffering serious injury. Yet we also have the fat cats of the banking and associated businesses who steal money from the company they work for without any conscience, and from us. It is normally punishable by jail, but they are rarely  brought to justice. The country needs stricter laws to deal with fatcat money grabbers, in both private and public service. And I could do with another couple of millions (pennies!!!) but no chance there tho!

On my weekly trip to Liverpool (to see elderly Ma in Law) I go for a walk past Melwood (LFC's Training Ground) - there are usually a small group of autograph hunters outside the gates. I see Aston Martin's leaving (Courtinho , Skrtel ), Ferrari's (Balotelli , Borini), and the other day I saw a beautiful Mercedes leaving too - I asked a young lad "Who was that ?"- he replied "Oh he's a nobody "!! He was probably "just" a reserve team player, but just shows the money these guys are on. With regards Sterling, the major point is he's over-hyped & nowhere near as good as he ( & his equally greedy agent ) thinks he is - if any club is daft enough to offer £40 -£50 million I'd grab it with both hands, using my boot to kick 'em both out of Anfield for ever. John, Agreed in all respects, except that you make sure with your boots on you give Sterling and agent a really strong up and under where it hurts most, to send him and greedy agent  way beyond the stratosphere... Throughout the years when I and Ronnie Kimpton went to Anfield, every single player had only two things on their minds -to play hard but fair, and never let the boss down. Totally different for Sterling, he is self self self 24/7. And why does he need so many houses - he can only live in one at any time?? I am surprised that Ballotelli has such a high powered car, he never seems willing to run fast, so he must drive slow too?? TC

Or was it the beer??   And why did I support LFC, when we and all my pals lived in the Blue area of the Pool?  TC

Eh guys it worked !!! got a conversation going  other than our politicians .....I remember going to the Odeon in Rochdale with my oldest grand daughter to see a kids flic during the summer hols and Flash Red Ferrari pulls into the car park ...out pops a young woman ( 20's)dressed in a designer outfit and 2 little kids 5-7 years old then the driver got out dressed in a baggy track suit is Paul Scholes ... one thing for Scholesy was that he spent about 15/20 mins signing autographs and talking to the punters/Kids etc .I suppose it was before agents oh and he still lives in Middleton Rochdale and his kids went to his old school,I don't think the modern players have this connection with the public/fans so being payed silly money and having agents whispering in their ear how good they are (bigger pay day for agent) has taken a toll on young footballers .......shame oh I know how about Cricket ????????????????

Bob, you did get a conversation going it's true but only between the stalwarts, yourself, TC, JKW  et moi ; DMF. Now if you could come up with something that got, let's say, 10 or more members talking now THAT would be something else. Full marks for effort though.

David, The normal fallback when chatter stalls is Sex, but with wifies and girlfriends about that could be dodgy!! We have waxed lyrical about several things on here, all very enjoyable, or some for instance, like politics, being boring (not to us, we thrive on good old chatter). So come on chaps, any suggestions on topics we would enjoy? We have done politics to death, and those like cars, trains and aeroplanes are out of our price bracket if you want one which is reliable! There is though, the topic of the day - who would YOU put on a one way trip to Mars??? Not just names, but also the reasoning behind the name. Salmond and Sturgeon are not worth mentioning, since they would not be alive more than a few minutes after take-off.... neither would Ms Merkel or even Rahim Sterling... maybe. All said tongue in cheek, again!!  Tom

Bob, Please do not take the goalposts as well, not nice when someone moves the goalposts during a match, or agument, or when the bottom lip is coming out, and also hard to erect again...., BUT, I know a footy player (?) who could be on the streets sooner than he thinks if you need one... Tom

Alan, Dead easy!! All Tranmere players promoted to acting/unpaid/lance comicals, and they beat LFC 35 - 0.... And 2 more for one way journey to Mars - Brendan Rodgers and his side kick Raheem.... Wishful thinking on my part!!

Send the following to Mars. John Prescott. Sturgeon and Salmond.  Russel Brand. David Walliams. All the nasty perverted child abusers. All the Asian child groomers. All those who turned a blind eye to it. Peter Mandelson. Clegg and ALL of his cronies. All the Parliamentary expenses fiddlers both the illegal and the immoral. All the OTT and thuggish police officers who give the rest of them a bad name. All the jobsworths. McCluskey (VIP seat). Sally Bercow. John Bercow. Anyone who sympathises with either of the Bercow's. The woman from LLOYDS insurance services who caused me to lose my rag with her rubbish and absolutely unhelpful response to my query. All heads of the various utility companies. Anyone who helps artificially raise the prices of fuel. Any premier league football player being paid more than £10k per week. The sour faced woman at the end of our Close we all call Charisma! Louis Walsh. That bird who is a judge on X Factor who can't sing and now has an unpronouncable French name. Jonathan Ross. Kevin Pieterson. All those who stopped him being re-selected for England. My dentist. The Gallagher brothers. The cast of Eastenders. My youngest granddaughter's boyfriend (not good enough for her!)  The woman whose cat has decided to call our garden his playground (borrowed time Felix, borrowed time!). There are so many more but I need to know how many seats are up for grabs before I nominate anyone else!!

David, quite a list, but if we had the Mars one-way rocket extended to twice a week one way trips, instead of this one only, I am sure all our members could send thousands there without a doubt. One person I would nominate is the guy who started the LIBOR scandal, costing billions around the world, without a thought for the rest of the decent world who could not even imagine what a billion pounds would look like, he should be behind bars for his life time, (not for life as the legal eagles  say, "their interpretation of  "life" is lucky if it means 4 years"... and time off for good behaviour.) How did I get on this theme???
