Is this end of ” unarmed coppers ” ??

March 23, 2017

Yesterday at Westminster where an unarmed copper took on a nut with knives and was killed . Yes there were armed officers inside the building, yes they wasted the nut but not before this very brave officer was murdered. We all have traveled the world and being armed is the " norm" in most countries for the police,in some countries they even arm the traffic wardens . Since 9/11 we have seen armed police at all of our major airports due the likelihood of an attack as was Brussels last year and Orly last week ,and with the amount of foot traffic in and out in the thousands they are an easyish target. The UK's threat level has been very high ever since Paris/Nice last ,the terrorists have only got to be lucky "once" and innocent people die like yesterday on the bridge. The latest is that this nut was known ,but we as the worlds home of democracy and civil rights had to have proof of an actual planned attack, and the mamby pamby do gooders wouldn't like it if we lifted all these "nuts" of the streets and  either threw 'em in jail or out of the country. There was a retired security guy stating that over the next couple of years there will terrorists who have been jailed waiting for release back into the world ,my thoughts are take them to Heathrow and export them out of the country. The so-called home born nuts lock up and throw the key away ,but that's another can of worms. To or Not To is the question on arming the Bobby on the beat guys ,as a dead nut is better than feeding them in jail for the rest of their life ????

The media ,papers,tv ,have really got their teeth into this latest incident in London, repeatedly going over the same info , question has the rest of the news reports from the world stopped being aired ???. Sad to say another victim has died and 2 are still critical. Another load of arrests, more data on computers,a woman released on bail ,oh and the PM' s security teams confusion on which car to leave Westminster have been gone over and over ,all that changes is the reporter. Now we hear that they have a couple of thousand eye witnesses to interview ,do we need to know all this ,NO,what we need is for the police/security services do their job ,and getting this constant story telling to put to bed and show who ever thinks that they can terrorise the UK can feck off. The United Kingdom has had worse and life went on it was just that we didn't have 24/7 news channels.

You're so right about the blanket coverage going over & over again the same stuff, showing exactly the same footage as if it was new stuff ! I've lost track of the times I've seen our PM scurrying to get into the car - bit of confusion there methinks, although not her fault, her security team should have been better organised I reckon. I do think Sky News in particular, just LOVE a major incident like this, they seem to revel in bad news reporting by literally swamping the area with reporters 24/7. The ONLY benefit of the tragic events  that took place in London is that it's kept Madam "Krankie" off the front pages ! John (JKW)

The news has to be reported in detail. Yesterday's events were clearly front page news. BUT, the DT and the Daily Mail both ran 16-18 page spreads yesterday, I am assuming the other tabloids and Red Tops followed suit. Today's press seems to be a slightly lesser replica of yesterday's. The TV and radio coverage as both Bob  and John describe is almost overwhelming. There is a balance between reporting the news, informing the public and affording murdering terrorists the oxygen of publicity  they and their scumbag organisations so desperately crave. I have never grasped why some matters grab the public attention so deeply and forcefully while other often more desperate and tragic matters fail to do so. Thanks to the media we all now know exactly where the PM gets into her car when she leaves Parliament and the fact that she wasn't precisely briefed where exactly to go or wasn't shepherded properly by close protection staff. I have watched the US presidential close protection guys literally push or drag presidents where they wanted them when things got hot. And I still want to know why, after the two French incidents, the German ones and others, the gates to the Palace of Westminster were staffed by unarmed police officers.

We only have to look at the U.S of A to see that arming the police in UK would be detrimental to all that our Police stand for, they do their job fairly without side arms, and the public would be put off if they saw a policeman in full body armour and armed to the teeth, a trunchion perhaps, but not heavy duty weapons for them all. Look what goes on in the U S of A, the cops seem to fire first THEN ask who they are shooting....and why....  Just a thought..... It may come to them carrying weapons after all, but I hope it will be kept under strict control if they do.
