It’s me again

November 2, 2016

So; you will recall me signing off in August explaining we had a family crisis. Well that crisis has now passed. For the past 8 months I have been supporting my darling daughter as she fought pancreatic cancer. As the months progressed she underwent round after round of hugely debilitating chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In August we embarked on her last chance round of chemo ergo my temporary leave of absence. It failed and Diana passed away last evening aged 46 leaving two daughters, her husband and her parents. Diana is the second of our two children to die before we do, you can imagine it has been a rough few months. As I gather composure and come to terms with it all I will start to once again inflict my opinions and views on you. In the meantime enjoy the respite, I will be back! Best wishes to you all, stay safe and well, David.

David,  Carole & I are so deeply sorry for your loss - we both remember Diana clearly, her and Sandra were school chums, & I can still see them both playing around together at the top of Ring Strasse. No parent should ever suffer the tragic loss of their child, in your case two children, which makes it even worse. This disease called cancer is a bastard - my own sister has just undergone a mastectomy (a 3lb tumour removed plus 17 lymph nodes) & is now awaiting her chemo treatment, whilst the wife of a very good friend of mine is about to undergo treatment for 2 very different cancers. There are so many different types of cancer, which can attack so many parts of the body, yet for years we were told "pack up the fags" (I did, by the way) because they were the cause. They certainly are, for lung cancer, but all these other cancers are caused by what ? I wish to God there was a definitive answer, and more importantly, a cure - I bet everyone on here knows someone close to them who has, or had, the the bastard disease called cancer. David, to you & Veronika, and of course Diana's husband & children, please accept our heartfelt condolences, our deepest sympathy, and know we are thinking of you at this very sad time. John (JKW)

Many thanks for your kind words guys, it's all still a bit raw as you can imagine. Still coming to terms with it all to be honest, worst thing that has ever happened to us. We spent all of last year helping Veronika's  mum through pointless radiotherapy only to sit and watch her die from cancer. Life hasn't been a bundle of laughs for a while but I head up a really strong, loving family so we will bounce back. Sometimes life is just a bitch, the secret is not to let it beat you because that's just not how we do things is it. Take care, all of you, I will be back pontificating and putting the world to rights once I have superglued my heart back together. Best wishes to you all. David.
