Just thinking , on passage of time

August 5, 2016

Over the summer we have lost a couple of Carbs that the current members do not or did not serve with ,by their service they were " National Service " Carbs all from the 50's . The title of the post "just thinking " we guys are the last of an exclusive club which is getting smaller by the passage of time . There are guys out there for one reason or other who don't connect on this site , I know there are plenty Scots D G or Greys all over Facebook as the Regimental site ( Scots DG ) has or is a complete mess . They in Scotland do a lot of get togethers thus keeping old friendships going ,were we Welsh/English seem to be spread all ove the world ,as such the North West Branch is very important keeping the ball ( meetings ) going . The shame of the "obits" when there are no posts of loss of friends old mates brings home how important modern technology is to keep old friendships going ,so I know I'm always waffling ,reason a) keep in contact,b) if enough people(you) post the site will hopefully get monies/costs from adverts,c) upcoming events ......without looking we have November in Chester in about 3 months ,time has flown ......hope we have a good turn out to toast our departed mate Colin .

Great post, Bob, we are a thinning group of very keen old comrades, 3DG, Scots Greys, and RSDG, a very select group if there ever was one!! The major realisation for me, and no doubt many of us, is how quickly the years have flown by but the main thing is that we are all still in contact, and remembering our many escapades, duties, and loads of entertainment. Especially for the sentries doing the LAD, Tech Stores and Vehicle park, Detmold, at about 11PM to midnight, when the young blonde German girl stripped off in the window of her flat in the street opposite the Tech Stores gate, with wide open curtains !!!! It was always a wonder to me why there was never a fight over who got that stag!! It was OK for me, cos I was free to visit the area at the right time as Cpl of the guard,  in my duty of making sure the sentry was wide awake and happy.....If he HAD been attacked by the young woman, I would have had to intervene, but it never happened. Sorry to say!!

And no doubt our other half, the Scots Greys, must have been entertained in their time before us in the same camp, ie Bourlon Bks., aka Klutte Casserne.

Tom canteen cowboy was the best duty ,not being confined to the guardroom till Naafi closed mmm ,I remember Herford we had a guy choke on booze etc standing orders to stop drunks choking to death,so we had to put drunks in the cells waking every 15/20 minutes with a liquid applied to the nether regions ( balls) Then on release guys would complain about their nether region ,frozen balls tee hee ...oh not Bourlon....Lothian Bks ...oh happy days

Whats a few miles difference when the talent was performing..... Actually I was reading about Bourlon, which was why I made the little error Bob. I will go back to sleep now, I will need my energy later to push Bourlon back to where it should be!!! (About 500 miles or so??
