Mine, just delivered, is an all singing all dancing laser/radar speed camera detector which will hopefully continue to keep my 53 year driving licence squeaky clean ! The one I've had for the past 12-14 years has saved me countless times, but the sneaky plod have far more sophisticated cameras these days, installed in many obscure locations, and so I need to be updated &  alerted to them. I am NOT a speed freak incidentally, but do occasionally (!) exceed the limit, sometimes purely by accident especially in the oft changing speed areas and average speed sections - despite using cruise control whenever I can, the extra "insurance" of the detector is welcome, and so it's become my "must have toy" for Christmas.  John (JKW)

I have hitherto adopted a tried and trusted way of dealing with speed cameras. I get 3 points on my licence and then take a bit more care. I have had 3 points on my licence since I left the army. Each time the points are taken off within a week or two, a month at most, I get caught again. My current car accelerates from 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and is governed at 155mph. Not the most sensible vehicle for me with my speed fine history. And, I have to confess, sometimes I have this irrational but overwhelming urge to show the car's speed off. The other day on the way back from the East Yorkshire coast some backside was tailgating me, I was on a dual carriageway, cruise control on and  set at my normal 76 mph. Pratt in a Golf GTI right up my rear end. I Flick into sports plus mode, foot down and I'm gone, Veronika is giving me grief as expected and I am too ashamed to write what speed I was at before I switched back to cruise. So, John, I am asking you what device you bought and from where because I think I need to reappraise my whole approach to this speed thing before it's too late!!

After considerable research, the best value IMO, combined with best ability I reckon to be  the Aguri Skyway GTX50, currently on offer direct from the makers (Aguriworld.co.uk) or  Amazon,  at £119.99p, with a discount of £30,post free & next day delivery. It has free updates for life, works straight out of the box and unlike other systems like SpeedCheetah which relies purely on its database for locating speed traps, the Aguri Skyway has a laser & radar detection capability as well to find any "live" cameras. It also works in Germany !! Considering just one lapse can result in 3 points and a £100 fine I reckon the purchase is money well spent ! Good luck David ; incidentally, it also has a mute button which neither Carole or Veronika has !! John (JKW)
