Me thinks there trouble about in Deutschland
November 20, 2017
She's trying to form a Government from 4 very different political parties, her own CDU, the CSU, the FDP and The Greens. It's the only combination possible to produce a majority Bundestag. Her main opponent, the SDP, won't countenance a coalition with her. Energy and immigration are the two biggest sticking points. The Greens want a drastic reduction in Germany's coal power production, the FDP say it will cost too many jobs. They also can't agree on how many of the family nembers of the 1.2 million refugees she allowed in recently are to be allowed to join their kin already domiciled in Germany. The truth is her own party are beginning to lose faith in her despite her popularity amongst the electorate. She's not done yet though, I suspect she may well avoid a re-election but nothing's beyond the bounds of possibility. As for Brexit, it's time for the games to stop. Our biggest danger isn't the Barnier's and Tusker's of this world, it's not even Corbyn and his cronies, it's the 20-25 Tory pro European faction who are determined to put personal feelings before the will of the electorate. Foremost amongst them is Ken Clarke, a dinosaur politician well past his sell by date now! Merkel has no greater problems than Teresa May does really, she can always opt to form a minority Government and say sod the lot of you. In all of this I ask myself how long Teresa May will accept the backstabbing and disunity within her party. Given her age and how financially comfortable her and her husband are I wonder sometimes why she doesn't just call her MPs together and say, 'here's the deal, back me 100% or I will resign, if you want a Labour Government led by Comrades Corbyn and McDonnell to dictate our future, to sell us short on Brexit, to plunge us back into even bigger debts, carry on with your dirty dealings, I have enough on my plate fighting Labour and the EU, if I have to fight my own MPs then it's simply not worth the bother'. 'Back me or I go'. That's what I would do in her position, I really would!! I can't abide disloyalty, even worse is disloyalty hidden under a veneer of 'doing the right thing'!!
