I only ever get notification from HMRC that I have underpaid them it happens every year, despite them deducting my taxes at source from my various pensions et al. My army pension has a figure ADDED to it by HMRC and is then taxed. But John is right the allowance IS there for people to claim, I got excited when I first heard of it only to sink into yet another anti climax on reading the small print apropos if one partner is in the higher tax bracket the allowance cannot be claimed. I might just claim my free bus pass now out of spite!!!

Neither Tom, I hate travelling on buses anyway we live in a village that has a history of inbreeding, the proverbial village idiots and some people who smell..............joking of course; well about those who smell anyway.........oh not you're not!! We made friends with someone in the village when we first moved here who later introduced us to his wife and his sister, er there was only one person with him! My wife still doesn't understand!! On the subject of OAP allowances, I also don't spend my annual heating allowance on fuel to heat the house. I bought "she who must be obeyed" an extra quality Primark cardigan a few years back (it was  BOGOF, gave the other one to the charity shop being a philanthropist) anyway with the onset of winter instead of turning the heating up I fetch the cardigan from the attic and I am £200 in! My wife maintains £100 of it is actually hers but she is pacified once I explain that I am not charging her anything for wearing the cardigan I bought OR the 13 TOG duvet we sleep under. I love being organised and having an orderly life!! Communication is the answer to most of our troubles, if everyone knows where they stand we would all be better off........got to finish I can see the spectre of that Primark cardi coming down the hallway.

Well that is a first for Primark, the only sweater which walks by itself, without needing a body to support it!! To be serious though, I can still remember the massive wave of heat which greeted us as we entered the Sqn block in Detmold, and the West Indian lads who, when they first arrived, standing in the doorway of the block convinced that it was far too cold for a human being to venture out into the cold and snow, but once they acclimatised, (via blue words of advice from the SSM) they joined us for the trip to the tankpark in a split second... They were all characters, and we all got on well with them. I once had 3 of them in the SHQ panzer crew for a while, but that is another story for another day.  By the way, has wifey found out where you keep your ill gotten £100?
