Glad you escaped her relatively unscathed Bob. We were in our static caravan on the east coast when it arrived and even we had 50/60 mph winds just getting the last remnants of it. Our caravan is 45 foot and on a concrete base with numerous heavy anchors mooring it to the ground but at times I thought we would take off!! We should have guessed though, Ophelia, the clue's in the name. She was a devious Danish woman in Shakespear's Hamlet, very untrustworthy, scheming and dangerous!!

David, "Ophelia, the clue's in the name" should have been a trivia question !! Bet you Googled it though, unless you're a big fan of the Bard's works ! Me ? Did "Merchant of Venice" in Junior School, never understood any of it & I had a fairly big part ! John (JKW)

I do google a lot John but I usually confess if that's what I did. In this case I didn't need to. I am the product of a Forces Grammar School, Alexandra Grammar, Singapore to be precise.  I spent almost three and a half years there when my parents were posted  to Nee Soon when I was 11, almost 12. Our English Lit tutor was a tubby, ginger haired, myopic man who had a passion for Shakespeare, not a nice man at all!! He also had a passion for our very gorgeous French Mistress who was Danish by birth we subsequently discovered. But, and this is where Ophelia sticks in my mind, we were reading Hamlet one day, we had to learn whole chunks of Shakespeare's plays by rote, other times he would select pupils to read passages aloud and we would discuss them. On one such occasion, when Ophelia enters the plot, he asked us if any of us knew any Danish people, just a random question we thought. None of us knew the French teacher was Danish, she had no hint of any accent. Anyway, he announces she is Danish and they were shortly to be married. I then, some would say stupidly, some would say characteristically, piped up and said I hoped he had better luck with her than Hamlet did with his Danish bird!! I was invited to stay behind after class. I was rewarded with the slipper. Believe me, I never needed to google Ophelia. Funny how things like that stick in your mind isn't it, insignificant events really but I can recall it as if it were yesterday. Did I mention I became a bit of a class hero for at least a whole day afterwards!!
