Bob, your grandson will have likely completed his 'Arbitur' which is more difficult than A levels and, I seem to recall,  requires a pass in about 6 different subjects, fail one you fail the lot. Also German degree courses are very much dependent on the 'Arbitur' overall score, only the very top marks get to study medicine and the likes which may be why  their drop out and failure rate is lower than ours. Your grandson did very well, you can be proud.

Yes I'm pleased ,now the Riley family will have 4 university graduates,one is my son who got his thanks to Uncle Sam after his service in the 90's in Bosnia . We have 2 nephews with honours degrees ,one in chemistry and one who is in the Royal Navy as a nuclear engineer on submarines. And finally a niece who is the court solicitor for Birkenhead magistrates court. So to have a grandson having the chance of University education,thus having prospects I never had or dreamed of . Hopefully my middle granddaughter will be an English teacher too ,as her A levels are coming along great .
