Soccer Idiots

May 2, 2016

Soccer has become a thing of derision , built up over many years, due to the misbehaviour of our professional and amateur players. Players argue and rant at the referees and other match officials over every decision made by the on field referee, and foul one another like spoilt brats. Why can they not behave like the rugby players?? They never argue with or shout at the on pitch officials because they will be sent off imediately . The two fighters in yesterday's Man U versus Leicester match at Old Trafford , Huth and Fellaini, were at each other all the time, but others were also at it. The reason I am complaining is that soccer players are teaching youngsters to shout at, swear at, and physically manhandle the officials all the time. Very many  pro players  have become warring louts, swearing at, and worse, at the match officials. Rugby players do not question or argue with the officials, the only player to do so (politely) is the team captain. Soccer is delving deep into the mire, since they are forever complaining, and worse, at the referee and linesmen for the slightest thing. Can somebody in authority not stamp it out immediately, by making the rule that only the team captain is allowed to speak to, or question refereeing decisions at any time. And even then, said captain must not shout, or swear at, the match referee. Or his linesmen. As for stopping the hairpulling, that is easily stopped, by ruling that ALL soccer players must be shaven headed.... Impossible, I know, but the soccer birdbrains do not listen. This can also be made law for shirt pulling, tripping an opponent nowhere near the ball. etc...if people want to see a fight, they should go to a boxing match, not a soccer match. A way of curbing this problem would be the manager of the offending idiot/idiots to be fined quite heavily each time they offend. Cloud cuckoo land I know, but something needs to be done. Soccer, when played within the rules, is a fine sport, either pro or amateur, it needs rescuing asap. You may think this stupid, but if it goes too far against the rules, spectators will leave in droves.

Tom, Totally agree with your sentiments. A very poor example was set by the England captain (Rooney) yesterday, gobbing off & gesticulating at the ref when he was blatantly at fault for fouling an opponent. Football could, & SHOULD,  learn a lot from how rugby is played and managed, including use of a "sin bin", and video technology, as well as showing more respect for match officials. John (JKW)

Football; a gentlemen's game played by hooligans. Rugby; a hooligan's game played by gentlemen.

Thanks both, much appreciated !! And today's evening match on SKY is a great example of what is wrong with football with Spurs and Chelsea at each other all the time, no sense of sportsmanship to be seen from either team, or from their managers. Rugby and Cricket set a good example of what sport IS ALL ABOUT !!! The problem is that the culprits should be sent off, fined and banned for specific times for specific fouls, infringements, et al. And as for biting, scratching eyes and all the other fouls, no miscreant should be paid for the match in which it occurs EVER. As you say, David and John, Rugby, and Cricket too, obey the rules, gentlemen one and all.

What else should we expect??? The match tonight show all there is to know about the parlous state of football in England. Spurs score 2, relax a bit, then after half time, Spurs lose the plot, and both teams decide it is time for the usual kick and knock about, with the opposition being the physical target. Forget the rules, forget playing football, lets all have a brawl, kick spots off each other, abuse the officials, and disappoint their fans. The game is called foot and ball, not foot and fist,or teeth, and targeting any part of the other side's body. If I was a referee,( I do not want to be), the 2 sides would all have been off and the match abandoned. The game NEEDS officials to get a grip and stop this fighting biting spitting and scratching which the players all seem to relish as the norm. The second half was war zone really, and most of the players (??), were the assault unit. I doubt if I would put a Challenger 2 against one of them, never mind  a full team.... Anyone for an international tiddlywinks league???
