I too thought it was a lost cause against Germany, but the new boys played like heroes, and deserved the win. I think Germany were bemused in the second half by the way ENGERLAND were first to the ball in the majority of cases. A good game, and the England boys deserve a bit of complementary  congratulations for a change. Well done to all.

You got it in one there Bob, the Irish regiments from the south did a fantastic job for the UK in 14/18, and suffered high casualties too.

I watched every minute of the England match (not usually too interested in "friendly" international matches, but hey, it was versus Germany !). What a performance, the best I've seen England play since '66, & that was also against the Germans, when we ALSO won !! I did note the media highlighted that 4 'Spurs guys were starting, almost totally forgetting (?) that 3 Liverpool players plus 1 for Germany also started the match ! Well done England, it made up for the cr*p Easter weather we're now having. Re the boxing, unfortunately Eubanks Jnr.'s opponent suffered a bleed from the brain & is in an induced coma - hope he pulls through OK. A sad coincidence that Chris Eubank Snr inflicted life changing injury to his opponent in an earlier brutal bout many years ago. There'll no doubt be the usual "ban boxing" hysteria, but most sports have an element of danger & possible injury to participants, but at least boxing is well controlled / regulated to minimise the risks, with top professional medical staff on hand should injury occur. To ban it would drive the sport underground, where such controls would not exist. I can see, however, a case for the use of headguards to become mandatory, probably a good thing IMO. Back to England - a great performance & even better result - Hodgson shouldn't even think of playing Rooney again, he's past his sell by date, and the "young guns" are the future ! John (JKW)

John too true about boxing I watched that fight with guy getting brain damage I think Eubanks Snr had a heavy punch , but coincidences do happen ,about the do gooders they're already at rugby over here ,the problem as I see it is that men/woman are getting bigger than us older folk with better diets etc. Underground boxing I thought that cage fighting is as near as you can get that ,real animals ,nothing held back and the use of all parts of the anatomy yuk. On another point Liverpool is there a bid in for are walking wounded Sturridge from PSG ??????

Bob, Re "Sicknote" Sturridge - the Liverpool Echo had two stories, the 1st saying PSG were interested in signing him, the 2nd stating they had no intention whatsoever of wanting him ! Believe what you want ! I expect he'll play against Holland on Tuesday, score a goal and then get injured, meaning he'll be unavailable to play versus Spurs on Saturday !! John (JKW)

John, re any call for a ban and head guards in boxing. I read an in depth article recently apropos head guards by an experienced doctor who has officiated as medical cover in a large number of professional bouts. He wasn't sure head guards were the answer in professional boxing as he thought they might make matters worse, they offered a larger head target, hindered vision and could mean boxers were able to endure greater punishment to the head before collapsing or being Ko'd with the known consequences of the culminating effect of that. I am sure there WILL be calls to ban boxing again just as there are many schools now that ban rugby or just allow touch rugby. In my opinion life is one big risk and if we ban everything that is potentially dangerous then life would hardly be worth living. On a brighter note I understand the guy with the brain bleed was PUT into an induced coma and is expected to make a full recovery.

That is it!!! The loony bunch delivering messages of disaster if we leave the EU have now said that "Leaving the EU could prejudice the England soccer team's permission to play in international and other world football competitions!!! Since when has ANY authority outside the soccer world itself had the authority to make such a statement??? The EU has NOT got any say  in banning ANY country from any soccer competitions!!!!!! Especially with claims of doom and despondency if we do leave. That decision can only be made by FIFA, and they are not going to do that, it would alienate all country Football Associations throughout the world. The way for us in UK to  contradict this madcap statement is for Cameron to tell the "For the EU" idiots that we are determined to leave, and will leave with or without these idiots  who are trying to  effect this loony statement ASAP. The whole anti UK world has lost the plot... At least these same idiots have NOT mentioned banning ANY OTHER UK sports teams from ANY sporting competitions as yet, but do not hold your breaths..... For   those who remember them, this is more like a Goon Show programme from years gone by...the Goons even tried to sail a grand piano across the channel in one episode, and they nearly did it....... May our Lords protect us.....

Tom I have it on good authority that "shuv  halfpenny " is also in trouble with European Union lovers , to think this little country of ours has given the world so many sports that cos we are an independent country again we will be banned or whatever . These stupid non thought out scary stories don't hold water ,pity this government is fiddling while the steel industry goes the tubes ,this leave it to market forces is a load of crap

Like all well heeled and educated snobs in private schools, the rulers we have do not, and never will have, the common touch, and therefore do not understand the working people who make this country great. Our leaders have no concept of what it is like to toil in factories and other areas, to produce the goods the nation needs. I saw a cartoon today where a so called "leader" was waffling about mundane things, while this "leader" was carrying a massive sack, about 10 times the size of the carrier, full of CASH, enough to finance UK for a century, with the words "Foreign Aid" on it in capital letters,  whereas a steel worker was standing near the steelworks, with a begging message saying "save our jobs", and he carried a small begging bowl, EMPTY.... Speaks volumes of the way we, the populace, are totally disregarded by our over educated and moronic "leaders". May the Lord help us, they will not... Trouble is that we have no alternative at the moment, more is the pity.
