Starving Kids !

October 23, 2020

Is it me, or have I got it totally wrong in believing this "starving kids" subject is out of hand ? Footballer Rashford says there's a "pandemic" in kids unable to eat enough, with the Daily Mirror publishing the names of every MP who voted against giving free meals throughout the school holidays. I watched a mother on TV stating how these free meals were so badly needed - she was grossly overweight, had 4 (FOUR) kids with no father, but expected the tax payer to fund the feeding of her brood. When I was a kid, we had very little money but my parents ALWAYS made sure we had enough to eat - I had holes in my shoes, worn out "pass me down" clothing, but always food in my belly. Surely it is the parent (s) responsibility to feed their kids - if you can't afford 'em, don't have 'em. On occasion there might be reasons for extra help, but a pandemic of starving kids ? I don't think so - we have a Welfare State and far better financial resources available to those in real need than was available when I was a nipper, so I reckon many of those responsible for bringing these starving kids into the world need to ACCEPT their responsibilities  and feed them properly without expecting the Government (tax payer) to do so. John. I agree totally with your post. A few years ago there was a couple being interviewed on a TV News programme (can't remember which channel it was) about  a reduction/freezing ? of child allowance (they had 2 children I believe) and they were sat in front of their laptop computer - with....in the background,,, a HUGE tropical fish tank teeming with fish, castles....etc - and, 2 or 3 (certainly 2) great Dane dogs running about. They were moaning about the cut/freeze in their allowance and not having enough money to feed "the kids" or eat properly themselves....AAAAARGH.....I could go on but I am sure you get the "gist" of it ? Stay safe.  Mick.

Here’s a story on starving kids ( pull up a sand bag) back in the days of RATIONING in the early 50 one little boys dad worked in the Birkenhead docks and every now and then he’d bring home some thing that they could eat . Well onetime he brought home some BANANAS and the boys mother gave him one to eat ,good eh. Well to cut a long story short ,the mother asked the boy where was the BANANA SKIN ,the little boy ( 7 years old) asked what BANANA SKIN?? ,yes he’d eaten the lot ,skin and all ( I still can taste that funny skin ,but it was nice and soft in the middle) . The modern kids don’t realise they are born with this Welfare state we live in today, some of the parents think it’s more important to have “THINGS” instead of feeding their off springs ,as the old saying goes “if you can’t feed ‘em ,DON’T BREED’EM.

On Sky News tonight they focused on a woman surrounded by bulging shopping bags sitting on a bench, her child scoffing a bag of crisps alongside her, being "led" by the reporter into stating how much she was in need of free meals to feed her kids during the school holidays. The media are really jumping on the "bash the mean old Government for not feeding the nations kids", without once mentioning the responsibility parents have or that not one kid I've seen looks anywhere near starving, in fact many look overweight. Andy Burnham & Rashford are relishing the limelight, particularly Burnham, who should concentrate more on stopping the illegal raves / parties in his patch ( one closed down last night with over 100 "guests", a disco with DJ & buffet for all -  organiser fined £10k by the police) instead of encouraging them to flout the rules by being anti establishment. I do believe Rashford's heart is in the right place & for some he'll be a lifeline, but for the majority I think he's feeding many who abuse his well meaning ways, whilst Burnham needs to start thinking straight & stop pandering to the Guardian and Mirror, using his position to protect the health of his "flock" before trying to be the Labour hero and putting jobs before health. Rashford means well and he is clearly passionate about trying to alleviate the hunger of a small number of children who DO need free meals. I agree that pictures of fat mums with fat kids, laden down with full shopping bags does little to inspire compassion in those of us who would die before allowing our kids to go hungry. But the sad fact is SOME kids DO need help. SOME kids have feckless parents who don’t look after them. SOME kids have decent parents who, through no fault of their own, have hit the skids! The real issue is differentiating between the scammers and the truly needy as John says. BUT in all of this the kids are the innocent ones. I absolutely agree that namby pamby state intervention encourages and promotes feckless parents to play the system. Free school meals means more money for fags and beer or drugs for some folk!   The Rashford phenomenon has already led to some councils and many firms offering free school meals to local kids during half term and beyond on a ‘come and get it’ basis. Such well intentioned actions will undoubtedly be a Godsend to both the needy and the needless! Like all ‘free’ handouts, state benefits and so on the truly needy are almost overshadowed by the scammers. Sadly.   Burnham. He tried to blackmail the Government through media hyperbole and failed. Now his local councils will be directly funded rather than him having control of any Covid funds. Playing party politics at times like these is despicable. Burnham is a rank hypocrite. In one breath he criticises Government for placing HIS area in tier 3 because the virus is spreading there much higher than other places then, in another breath, he advocates a national lockdown. THAT won’t affect jobs or the economy will it!!!!

In these days of 'facebook' 'twitter' and all the 'socially deprived' families with starving kids, how many have mobile phones on contracts, stop the contracts and spend the money on your poor deprived children, don't hold your breath that it will ever happen. We are becoming a nation of victims, you are not socially accepted if you are not on facebook bemoaning the fact that you are down to your last tin of beans and it's all down to this nasty governments fault. As for 'Burnham' with his whining pitiful expression, typical lefty ( I still get my full wages), as do all the Union bosses with snouts stuck firmly in the trough, with their £100.000 + wages, how many donations have any of them given? As you have all said when we were kids our mothers never let us go really hungry, there was always a jam butty when you came in from school, till tea time, my mother was a marvel with the variations she dished up, main meal and pudding.
