Hi.  Just to let you all know,  Syd., has been in various Hospitals since his bad accident last February.

Syd., was a 22 year man, who served most of that time in the 3rd. Carabiniers,   You will all know him, Yet, He has only had visits from Family and " less frequent " Myself.

The poor lad fell badly down the stairs of a bus and it was touch and go for a long time, whether or not he would pull through !  Rugged determination and hard work prevailed and He is on the road to recovery, however, there is a way to go !

Syd., is currently in Room 30 of the Rehabilitation Unit at Clatterbridge Hospital.   Visiting is very open, meaning, if you turn up at a reasonable hour say between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. you will get to see him.  The more progress He makes, the sooner He can go home.  A visit from you would enhance the process.

Come on Chaps, can you local Guys try to make the effort to make his day and help him take more steps in the right direction.  I'm sure he would do it for you !

If you require directions,  Bus fare or the ilk,  please contact me for further details.   CHEERS. ALL.    Colin.

Colin, I was wrongly under the impression Sid was back home, ages ago, which is why I have not visited him since nothing about him being back in Clatterbridge was mentioned on here. A lame excuse, I know, but I wll try to visit him soon. I will send him a letter/card in the meantime.

Bob, Is that request because you think he may not want to buy you a pint????? Ho Ho Ho!!! Or even - no whisky..... But there again, he could very well still be in rehab in November. Jokes over, I WILL give Sid your best wishes when I visit him soon, and update you then. Tom

I haven't see Syd for a long time.   When I was the Irish Hussars RQMS, Syd was at FVRDE (Chertsey) and used to be a regular visitor for kit exchanges and "buckshees" he could scrounge from me.   Although I think at the time he was 4/7th he still came to me for his supplies. Give Syd my best regards and hope he gets well soon. Ken

Going back many, many years, Sid & I shared a bunk in Lothian Bks as J/NCO's - we also shared many social occasions together (!?!), & although he went to the 4/7th on Amalgamation our paths have crossed a few times since, including when he ran that pub in Chester. Tom, please give Sid my very best wishes for a speedy recovery when you see him, & tell him I'll let him off the 10 Dm's he still owes me ! John (JKW)

John, It will be my pleasure my friend! I just hope he is easier to find in Clatterbridge than he was in the Countess of Chester hospital - 3 times I asked the reception where he was, and duly went there, to be told he was somewhere else, and they gave me directions to different wards, and I gave up after a few unsuccessful attempts. But 2 days later, I managed to see him, but he was being given a full service at the time, so I only said "Hi Sid, will be back in a few days", but he was released to his family before I got another chance, and he did seem to be slowly recovering at their homes. Then Colin's bombshell the other day - Sid in Clatterbridge Rehab...

JKW, yes, Sid's pub was the Railway, near the station. We met there for our monthly chinwag. And he charged us for the first beer too!!

Many thanks John, Ken., Bob., & Tom., for your posts.  I visited Sydney on Saturday and he was in good spirits.  I also spent an hour and a half with him the previous Wednesday and only left when He had a visit from two Social Workers.  He tells me that  He may be released in two or three weeks, but, He has heard this on a few occasions to no avail , however, if and when He is released, He will need 24 hour supervision as " they assume " he is still not ready to cope on his own.  He will get this home help free for the first 6 weeks, then he has to pay out of his own pocket should it be required for longer. On Saturday we both went for a little stroll in the grounds of the Hospital and he is still a bit unsure and unsteady , but, He has improved so much since I first saw him following his terrible fall. Bob., I passed on your regards and Syd., was very grateful for your concern and asked me to pass on His regards to you and all Comrades.  I'm spending a week or two up at the caravan from today, Monday and I will be unable to visit him for a short while.  Syd., would be more than pleased to see anyone, no appointment necessary ! Thanks again, Guy's.  Regards.  Colin.

Gents, I visited Sid this morning,17th August 15, and found him in really good spirits, and is hoping to be released in a couple of weeks, as Colin Butler said. He was chuffed to hear that people have written their best regards to him on this site, and is really grateful for all their  support.  He is walking around easily, and speaking well, sometimes using the "flowery" language he used to!! He recalls lots of events, and discusses them very well, so he is more the old Sid of yore!! But is that a good or bad thing for the rest of us innocents!!!!  I will keep you informed of his progress, from now until Colin Butler returns from his break in the wilds of Wales....
