At last common sense prevails within the Tory Party and we can move forward. I hope Theresea May repays the support and loyalty of the bulk of the Tory PLP and gets down to the job of delivering Brexit in a timely fashion with the best possible exit terms for our country. I think she has the wherewithal to make a success of the job and I applaud Ms Leadsom for doing what is best for everyone by withdrawing her candidacy and stepping aside. Corbyn could do worse than emulating Andrea Leadsom's example. He won't of course and that is all much to the Tories delight.

Just received a "Dear David" email from TM (really) I am a member of the Tory Party for my sins, she vows to proceed speedily with Brexit, she is firm that Brexit means just that and there is no going back, no room for any rethink, she intends to concentrate on getting the best exit terms, she vows to unite the country, forge a strong economy globally and show the world we are open for business, she also vows to make the country more equitable for everyone and give people more control of their lives......whatever that means. Words do come easy, actions of course speak far louder but I am willing to give her a chance and I really hope she is successful. The email was signed by her over the signature block Leader of The Conservative Party. She hasn't wasted any time that's for sure!!!!

The media are all over Downing Street, why do they ask such stupid negative questions as the politicians are walking to the front door of number 10 . Do they honestly think that a politician will answer a shouted question  without taking advice or their dress/ hair immaculate,no way . Yep so much waffle,no substance, lots of buzz words .even the Lib Dems are now putting their heads above the parapet about Brexit decisions . So now we have another Ex PM on the dinner speech circuit and I can't wait for his memoir, shucks folks another chapter in the history of this great United Kingdom, the powers that be have to positive, have a great day

Freddy managed to delete my double post how cool is that! Had I have known he could/would do that I would have stayed Schtumm lol. Anyway, the talk now is all about should we have an election as TM wasn't elected? I can't for a second think Labour would want that and anyway they have nothing to crow about Brown did the same thing when Blair resigned and THAT was a stitch up. The last thing this country needs now is an election for heavens sake we need some breathing space to get the EU exit and terms sorted and some political continuity. I am more than happy to give TM a fighting chance to sort matters and her elevation to party leader and PM will calm the markets down and show we mean business. Let Labour tear themselves apart for a while if they have to they are presenting absolutely no political threat to the Tories at present and won't do so until Corbyn goes........it IS only a matter of time and their ridiculous refusal to accept the inevitable will only serve to help TM find her feet and get to grips with the more pressing affairs of state. So; I am much more optimistic about the way forward now the PM successor question has been answered speedily and let's hope the EU issue is dealt with just as speedily, comprehensively and as satisfactorily ! Well we can but hope!

As the song goes, "There May be trouble ahead" but it will all be from the other side, so I am very optimistic about the future. I hope that the new PM carries through the Brexit, to our full satisfaction. The problems in the Labour ranks could, and I hope will, soon be resolved if they get their brain (I do not know which Labour person has it in their back pocket though), before there is a calamity (?) in labour, of total annihilation. The self destruct button has obviously been pushed by some person or persons who did the deed secretly, without giving his/her name, or names. So they may yet sink into oblivion before the week  is out. At least sanity would be given a chance to save us all from the perils of Corbyn and Co.   Tom

Tom your puns are getting worse , as long as you don't start singing "The fields of Athenry " ,now sit back and enjoy and hum along with " it might as well rain until September " by the Labour Party.

one must remember that Theresa May was most voiciferous when Gordon Brown did the same as she is doing now, in this case it works out roughly 0.0004% of the country having the say on who the PM should be. I see that JC  has started to assume the  mantle that Bliar ( no not  missspelt ) Mr Teflon , with the help of the unions, it was good to see that he and the unions were thwarted partly in their machinations, by the January 12th ruling on the £3 member vote, that effectively rules out over 100,00, and as a rider to that they have a two day window to re,enrol but must pay £25 for the privilege, put your money where your mouth is so to speak, as has been said elsewhere interesting times ahead.

Bob, you are correct that TM was vociferous when the Brown/Blair succession took place but the circumstances are wholly different. The Blair/Brown issue was a stitch up, a deal promulgated by two political  heavy weights who hated each other but relied on each other! TM is PM by dint of forced circumstances, she assumes office because Cameron did the honourable thing and fell on his sword following his defeat at the referendum, no stitch up, no dirty dealing behind closed doors, no pretend loyalties or faux mutual support. As for Corbyn, he knows now that the issue rests with the membership his chances of beating the insurrection are far greater than ever before. In all of this I am of the opinion that the appointment of TM to the PM office is the best of a bad deal it is already stabilising the international money markets and shows determined to move forward.

The very best of luck to our new PM I say - her speech outside her new residence was exactly what the country needed, and although the doom 'n' gloom merchants will say "Huh, let's see her put words into action", I firmly believe she will do just that. I reckon she has inner steel, real back bone, and both the experience and intelligence to steer the UK ahead to a great future - it won't (can't) happen overnight, but IMO she will prove to be an excellent Prime Minister. Let's give her every support to help her settle in & achieve her aims for us all. John (JKW)

So now all the key positions in the cabinet have been selected by TM ,some interesting choices ,hopefully they'll knit into a team that gets the best for the United Kingdom. Now let's get some optimism going give all these doom and gloom merchants a kick up the jacksey ,and as David said "onwards and upwards "

She has chosen her new cabinet cannily. BJ is popular with other Tories and gained immense sympathy after the back stabbing. Hammond is a safe pair of hands. Fox likewise. Fallon capable and he is popular with the troops. Osborne was never popular and shot his bolt during the referendum campaign so he had to go, I can't see any mention of Gove?? All in all a cabinet comprising both Brexiters and Remainers, a cabinet designed to unify and lead. She has shown she has strength of character already it bodes well for the future. If, as seems likely, David Davis  leads the Brexit talks we can be sure of some pretty hard bargaining.

Gove had to go IMO 'cos of his back-stabbing antics on Boris, plus I wouldn't be surprised if Boris had made it a condition of his accepting the Foreign Office appointment conditional on Gove NOT being in the Cabinet . With regards the international back lash on Boris' appointment (plus Angela Eagle's shock/horror show !), stuff 'em all - it goes to prove we HAVE got our country back and can govern as we wish without requiring the "permission" from Brussels ! I'm truly optimistic now, full of hope and excitement for the future of Great Britain again - I hope our new PM puts Nicola Sturgeon in her place when she visits Scotland tomorrow, stating there'll be no Independence Referendum and it's time they started pulling the same way as the rest of the United Kingdom.
