Trump !

January 3, 2018

I said some time ago, in between Trump’s inanities, his rhetoric and his ridiculous rants he DOES tell some home truths and he DOES at least have the balls  to follow through with his actions. We, the UK, send £12 billion overseas aid each year to countries many of whom either despise us, actively hide those who plot against us or are actually enemies of democracy. Meanwhile half the hospitals in the country have stopped all elective  surgery to save money because respective Governments have overseen the systematic rundown and closure of hospital wards. Our regular army is devastated and unable to put anything larger than a division into a full blown combat scenario with more cuts muted. We have less than 6 RN war ships serviceable and able to defend our shores and our airforce is almost defunct now relying more on the handful of drones they have than anything else. Trump is meanwhile expanding his armed forces, he is treating aggression with aggression, he is telling that North Korean upstart, ‘don’t threaten us with your half arsed rockets, send one into our country and we will obliterate you’. Now, call me a fool but I reckon that sort of language resonates more deeply with despotic dictators than the mealy mouthed lickspittle hyperbole that we and many other countries adopt. So, at the risk of becoming sycophantic to your opinions John, I agree with your post. Again!

On the subject of the Royal Navy, I read the other day that we started WW2 with 6 aircraft carriers, and finished the war with 52 !! Now, over  70 years later we don't have a single one fully operational, and even when sea trials are completed on the new builds there won't be any aircraft ready to put on them! The mind boggles at the sheer ineptitude of our leaders & planners - how  could we allow such a situation to arise, especially from what has traditionally been in earlier times a pro Defence / Armed Forces Conservative Government ? IMO the slide, started by Labour & continued with Osborne ( he of the back stabbing London Evening Standard) who, as Chancellor,  was prepared to sacrifice our defence capability by slashing expenditure on the Arms Forces , leading to the sorry ( and dangerous) state of affairs we now find ourselves in.
