VW anybody??????

Bob, Hardly see what it has to do with our beloved leader. As for the cars I think you will find that it does not effect the driving, or performance, and as for the emissions, it's a minute reading that you are talking about hardly likely to kill thousands, it's the flavour of the present mind set to pounce on something of no consequence and blow it up out of all proportions, emissions were invented by the Loony Greens and the EU. Having said that, I have never owned a VW and have no intention to, but this "amazing !!!!!! 'news would not stop me from buying one, unless of course i was 'Green' the majority who run around in gas guzzling Volvo's, or who travel to conferences on the other side of the world in aeroplanes, who spew out masses of pollution.

I have now read a number of reports on this matter. I is pretty clear that VW and possibly (likely) other manufacturers have developed and used software that cheats the emissions standards during tests. From what I  have read this cheating is a likely result of totally unrealistic upper levels of emissions  being set and has been known or certainly hinted at for a number of years by many people at the top of various trees!! The trouble is poor Joe Public doesn't know which way to turn. Only a year or so ago everyone was still being encouraged to buy diesels as they generally produced better MPG figures and were thought to be more environmentally friendly. Now, when 60% of cars are propelled by diesel engines, they are declared to be the enemy number 1!! Tough sh*t on the millions who bought these cars in good faith they can still pay higher congestion charges in the main cities even IF the Govt encouraged them to buy the cars. I understand  some German ministers knew of this breaking news some time ago. All this furore will die down soon, VW will be hit with a massive fine, there will be countless litigation cases from "Green" VW drivers who will say they have been cheated and thousands of "couldn't give a sh*t" VW drivers who will jump on the bandwagon and then the world will get back to normal. Frau Merkel is not having a good time at present. Having made one of the biggest political errors in modern history with her "open door" policy for immigrants, most of whom are absolutely NOT Syrian OR refugees but economic migrants, she is now faced with the world's largest car manufacturer and one of Germay's biggest employers and tax resources facing in huge trouble. I drive a 3litre BMW X5 M3 Sport, 264bhp and diesel all the way, if BMW are found to have emulated VW I don't think I will lay awake at night worrying, car emissions weren't exactly top of my list of priorities when I bought it if I am honest!! Hey ho there will be another, different, scandal to amuse us all tomorrow. That's the way of the world!!

We must all remember that the world thrives on "something to worry about" so while some problems come to the public domain, there will be several more waiting to be released, just to keep our minds off the REAL problems of our world, like those we discuss on this website. As David says, someone somewhere will "discover" a new threat to peace, health and security, through poverty, sickness or whatever. On a change of tack, the economic migrants at present travelling through Europe to the "Promised Land", are now complaining that it gets cold during these months of the year, and they now accuse Europe (and not their country of origin) of not telling them of this weather change, and are demanding blankets, warm clothing and heated accommodation during their travels. Why did none of them think of this before leaving their country of origin??? They are in for more than a shock if and when they arrive in these North European climes... Surely they should know it can sometimes get cold at night, even in the middle east.

The latest news in the VW FIASCO is German court has ruled that VW do not have to make any reparations, because the problem can be solved by (in the main ) by a simple software solution. My son who resides in the Vaterland, was told that he could return his Caddy to where he had bought it and get refund at the going rate. ALAS that is now out of the window. Buy British---- that is if you can find a truly British Car. I doubt it. Deutsche land, Deutsche land unter uns alle. Or so it goes.

If they got the first software wrong, what chance of the NEW SOFTWARE BEING AS GOOD (?) as the old version? It is a veritable comedy of errors from start to finish, but the EU will not accept any responsibility for it through poor testing before its issue, something no other western country would pass as fit for purpose without a great deal of testing by the government, not the firm writing the software....

The whole emissions issue is a farce really. It's no different from the mpg tests they do on new cars. All done to a strict, and entirely barmy set of EU regulations. NO car can ever match the car manufacturers' stated mpg because the test conditions imposed by the EU are simply completely bonkers, unrealistic and mired in red tape. The emissions tests likewise. VW got caught cheating, but the emissions published on my BMW (X5) bear no resemblance to those that were achieved by independent testers; the figures were just fudged, as were those of nearly all car manufacturers.  Nothing VW did really resulted in a loss for those who bought the cars, apart perhaps for company car drivers- if the treasury reassess's their cars on the new emission figures. It might well be galling if someone is a tree hugger and bought a VW specifically because it was stated it had low emissions but otherwise  can't personally see what all the fuss is about. At the end of the day VW build good cars and anyone who ever thought Germany would let it's biggest car manufacturer, it's almost single biggest car exporter and source of company tax, go to the dogs over being caught cheating is on cloud cuckoo. Word on the street in Ze Vaterland is that the issue was known about in Government circles long before it hit the public arena. So; I don't blame anyone who bought a VW which was compromised by the emissions saga trying to get some dosh back but noone should be surprised that "it ain't gonna happen" as they say. That's the way of the world, the wonderful EU world we are all so fond of..................!

It all goes back to the old comment, "Never trust a salesman", in this case, anyone in the business world selling anything from a trained flea to an atomic weapon. It never works as you are told it will, so nothing changes there then?? As the old song quotes,"its the same the whole world over, aint it all a bloody shame..." Trouble is that no salesperson will recompense anyone without being threatened by something like the Mafia, or worse, like our friends in Europe..

The saga rumbles on. A GERMAN car magazine published details of the problems with the VW group of 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines having serious problems with timing drive. That is VW, Seat, and Skoda. At mileages upto 100,000 kms. The timing gear wears excessively, slackens and locks up the valve gear and wrecks the engine. VW know this is a serious fault, but will only rectify it free of charge if the engine is still within its warranty period. Good old German craftsmanship. Ho,ho,ho! What a fallacy, .
