Who ?What? The juries still out

Eeerrrrmmm so this jetliner just decided to breakup and fall to pieces over an area of 20 sq miles ?? As you do?? Now this is making me a bit nervous,I travel over that part of the world to go to Goa for the winter sun,via Qatar in the gulf .They have the black boxes, and they have illiminated "pilot error" and severe mechanical problems ,so does that mean a bomb on board (Panam) or missile hit??? Whatever the cause it won't bring back the 200 odd soles lost especially the children!

I don't believe a surface to air missile is responsible. Pilot error is really unlikely to have caused a mid air break up of the aircraft. My two feasible options are; a bomb on board OR catastrophic structural failure resultant from this aircraft's previous accident in which the tail collided with the ground on landing. Either way, the black box is unlikely to shed light on those two possibilities. If a bomb really did explode on board a careful analysis of the wreck should show that to be the case, likewise if the tail collision incident was to blame. Best to wait for the outcome of the air accident analysis. The world is certainly becoming a far less safer place to travel across. We tend to try and stick to holidaying in places where the likelihood of an attack from jihadists and other nutters is, at least, minimalised, sadly the options are getting less as each day passes. As an aside. the Egyptian claim that they have complete control of the Sinai Desert is ludicrous. Really sad to see those pictures of the kids and their little shoes lying amongst the wreckage.

David, If the disaster was caused by bomb or missile targetting the plane by Jihadists, I would hate to be one of them  when the investigation finds that is the cause. As long as it proves positively from Jihadi actions then goodbye a vast proportion of the muslim faithful I am afraid. Or satisfied. Tom

20000 Brits stuck in Sharma , British experts on the ground helping the Egyptians how to make air travel safe, and the Russians saying it's all political. It would definitely be political if the government didn't act on info and one-of Easyjets planes was spread over the desert . The Egyptians aren't saying boo ,if the information proves right ( for a change) holidays to Egypt will die ,if you remember that massacre of German tourists in Luxor killed the Nile cruising for years until the put troops everywhere, even then you had escorts everywhere. So the military run Egypt now they have to look after western tourists more closely. To be continued

We have been to Sharm a few times. the airport is crap, the security is crap, the service is crap. The security around the hotels is just as bad and remember Sharm El Sheikh is the home of the deposed, erstwhile President of Egypt!! This is a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. If the latest intel suggests all is not right at that airport the Govt is obliged to act as it has done. Nobody ever died from inconvenience. I am convinced it was a bomb and I am equally convinced it was, at least in part, an inside job. There has always been plenty of disaffected Arabs in Sharm, as the bomb in Nama Bay some years ago proved.Russia is beginning to pay the price for Putin's support of Assad. There will be more to come. We are equally as "at risk" for our own stance on ISIL  at least Putin is actually bombing the bastards  in situ. We can't even get a consensus on who the bad guys are and who the good ones are. As an aside, this latest episode in Sharm just serves to further underpin my opinion that we westerners are safer in giving all muslim countries, all islamic states a wide berth. We certainly will do!!
