This is a rhetorical question but why is my garden and drive covered in pea sized hailstones at the end of July?? We just had a torrential hailstorm.

David a couple of days ago it was reported on Facebook with pictures of somewhere in Europe of golf ball size hail actually breaking car windows and denting panels,so consider yourself lucky.

I would rather have the hailstones than the horrendous fires they are having in south of France and Corsica David, but I DO understand your concerns. When in Libya I could never accept that we could be in very high temperatures at CHRISTMAS, with brain destroying temperatures of over 100 degrees caused by forest fires!!! But I do understand your question, since it shows us all that we can never comprehend why the weather gods send us such trials. How can we enjoy a good Guinness at those temperatures.....? (without a single ice cube within a thousand miles???) Bit of poetic licence there, but never mind.... What next, famine and pestilence???

John, you and I both know my Mercedes is not parked in my drive, it reposes in my heated double garage, Veronica's Kia sits in the drive!!  Lol. Tom, the hailstones are preferred to the rampaging fires in Southern Europe albeit our grapevine didn't like the storm today. We had our first almost edible mini grape drop last year, hoping for better this year. Only a single vine wrapped around a garden arch but the fruits are there already, just need some decent sunshine. Hoping to eventually make some wine!!

come rain, hail, or snow, if you live in Britain, you can live anywhere, the Welsh are happy knowing that at the moment that France has taken over the mantle of sizing eg, an area the size of Wales ,floods, deforestation by man, natural disasters where size matters. Yes I did not mention the sun, I did not want Tom to go off on one, it is bad enough the northern neighbours saying,  away and boil your head.

looking at a picture of an Airbus A 320 that emergency landed at Ataturk Airport Istanbul, the nose cone had almost been obliterated it looks like a bomb had blown it out, the forward windscreens were crazed over and the autopilot had been blown out. The Ukrainian pilot was given an award for getting the plane down, so David in answer to your rhetorical question , the damage to the plane was caused by hailstones the size of hens eggs, HMMMM.

I saw the photographs of the plane you speak of Bob, I read the article sat in our garden room watching it hail furiously again. 'She who must be obeyed' is angry because it decimated her lilies that had reached a height of 7 feet with huge blossoms, now just a mass of big, sad, white petals on the ground!! Anyway, imagine being a passenger in that plane! Bet a few squeaky bums were present.
