Hello Tom, good to hear from you again old chum. Am I still beautiful inside and out? I confess I have been described in many ways during my lifetime Tom but I can’t personally recall hearing the word beautiful and my name in the same sentence lol.

I remember saying as a young (deluded !) man, that it would free up hospital beds, save the NHS a fortune & lots of personal suffering if, on reaching the age of 70, the State provided a free party for the "Birthday Boy/Girl" on the understanding that a suicide pill to finish off the party was taken by said "70th Birthday Person" ! I'm fast approaching 71 this month so am very grateful my proposal wasn't taken up !! John (JKW)

Yes John, I also remember having similar thoughts in the days when we never  even contemplated reaching old age. But, I contend many folk at 70, when we were in out 30s/40s, seemed REALLY old whereas 70 now seems no great age really. I know I’m not alone at 70  in still biking, going for long walks, the occasional jog and enjoying life. Sure, the first time going down stairs in the morning I feel my creaky knees a bit and I no longer feel secure jumping down from any height over about 3 feet but all in all I simply don’t feel 70. As an aside, your jest apropos older people and the NHS is actually spot on, as I have said so many time before the percentage of acute and critical care hospital beds occupied by the over 70s and 80s has reached staggeringly high numbers. I watched one hospital CEO explaining on the news recently that the average age of patients occupying his overstretched acute hospital beds was 81!!

And over half or more would be foreign persons seeking free help and treatment to the detriment of our native British oldies who should be first in the queue every time.... when will we learn??? Our local hospital (or is it a refugee camp?) has said it  can no longer take UK or any other patients due to no beds available. Horses and bolted come to mind.... I just feel sorry for the hospital staff, having to deal with these overloads, they do not deserve to struggle against the floods from outside UK. And JKW, that was NOT a penalty that let Tottingham off the hook. Blatant unadulterated theft. The linesman must be blind or else he needs to visit an linesman's training course....

So, I typed my post, pressed Reply and it came up blank. Could it be my attempt at putting emojis on the end of my post?

So, Bob, I said you had the honour of belonging to a very small and select group of people whose words left me devoid of a witty riposte or at least an answer, lol. No emojis.

No emojis David - I too, found out the hard way (losing long "posts") that they're not compatible on the Forum, hence my occasional (!?!) use of exclamation marks in lieu !! Tom, yep, totally agree, no way was either penalty legit ;  the 1st blatantly offside prior to Kane's dive, and the 2nd another ,even more blatant dive,  by Lamela  claiming VvD had kicked him in the calf. I've studied the clips on t'internet over and over, even in slow motion, and VvD actually pulled his foot back away from the Spurs player's leg, causing his knee to brush against Lamela's backside without ANY force whatever. It certainly didn't warrant the falling to ground in agony clutching his lower leg - instead of a penalty being awarded  against us, Lamela should have got a Yellow Card for diving. Can you imagine the "reception" he and those officials will get when they step inside Anfield next !?! David, with your in depth knowledge of the "beautiful game", what do you reckon ? John (JKW)

Funny you should mention my in depth knowledge of the “beautiful game” John. You and I both know beneath this modest, some might say brilliantly modest, facade of feigning ignorance about football I am in fact a walking lexicon of knowledge and tactical awareness. I have watched part of the match in question and I have arrived at the conclusion ‘we wuz robbed guv’. The guy from the Andes, Llama, collapsed with whatever the opposite of altitude sickness is and Citizen Kane also dived. All in all I think it was a game of two halves, one half followed by another and the star player was the referee who was clearly determined to steal the limelight by making the most crass decisions possible. So there you are a lucid, professional, highly intellectual post match synopsis.
