Gentlemen,

It is with regret that I have to inform you of the passing of Mr Charles (Chas) Holland on the 30 Jan 2016. He served with 3DG 1958-68 with both HQ and C Sqns. During his service he played football for the regiment as well as Cricket where he represented the Royal Armoured Corps.

Once I have details of the funeral and his next of kin I will pass these onto you.

Regards

Sharon

Memories of Chas as keen footballer and Sgts Mess barman and  caterer. Sadly missed by those who knew him.

I remember Chas well from my days in C sqn. & later after we were both de-mobbed when he had a cafe in Milnthorpe just south of Kendal. Jen & I used to call in on way home to Millom. As I remember he did an excellent Gamon & Eggs, & was always pleased to chat about the times gone past. Another Old Comrade gone to the Tank Park in the sky, or should it be the Sgts Mess in the sky.

Myself and Jimmy Evans were in attendance today at the funeral in Morecambe of Chas Holland. During his later years Chas (I think we called him Charlie) had become quite ill and a little reclusive, so although living a mere 12 miles away I saw him rarely, more's the pity given the outcome. His Son and friends were at the service  and  a poppy wreath from the Regt was placed on the coffin. Unfortunately Ted Martin, who played a major part in the arrangements was unable to attend. Hopefully, he will soon be putting on his whites to turn out for the  1st Eleven Carb's team in the sky.

Another of the Regiment has gone to pastures new, but Chas will remain in the memories of all Carbs as a great sportsman and comrade. Condolences to his family, and I hope he gets in the Upstairs First Eleven, dressed in his whites..  Tom
