Once again, no logic or common sense prevailing here regarding the over-payments to the Apache pilots. I remember Major Bartholomew, on returning from his ERE posting on Procurement, telling the tale re our issue sleeping bags (those smelly green things) : the filling consisted of feathers, "procured" from Birds Eye. Birds Eye assumed that prior to filling the bags, MOD would have the feathers cleaned - the MOD assumed Birds Eye had done this - nobody checked !! So, it was no wonder they always stunk to high Heaven, blood stained & full of farm yard sh*te !! Aircraft carriers with no aircraft, Apache helicopters now with too few pilots, a fully trained Regiment of highly qualified tank soldiers  now being used as "go-kart" (aka "Jackal") borne recce infantry - nothing surprises me anymore, I'm just so glad I served when I did, the sleeping bags I could put up with, the rest of it, NO !! I misread the article apropos the cost of Apache Pilot training costs, the true figure is £3.5 million and another couple of million for the instructors to be fully trained and qualified. Seems 200 Pilots and ground crew were involved and the 15 pilots who have, or are, resigning are just the tip of the iceberg. The MOD is also pursuing pilots and others of the AAC who were overpaid and have since left the services. Like JK I can only thank my lucky stars we served in better times, times when we were almost treated with respect and some empathy!

Another case of the rulers not thinking before they open their voluminous mouths and "saving" money overpaid (??) to these pilots/instructors/any military personnel sent overseas with extra allowances to ensure they are well trained, well equipped and not out of pocket...it beggars belief that if this payment allocation was agreed before these service personnel actually went on their mission training/instructing others then NO monies should be repaid. I bet the MP.s in Commons and Lords would throw rattles and dolls out of prams at the very thought of repaying what was at the time the AGREED payments, cos trying to take it back is nothing other than theft. In any situation. Shame on the government for even thinking of trying it on, never mind taking valid payments back.. I bet the MP,s /House of Lords would be up in arms immediately someone tried to recover these payments from them. One law for them etc etc comes to mind... I may be back in the glasshouse before long.. Ah well, c'st la vie.... au revoir mes amies.... F*F*K* Translation not required, perhaps...
