just fed up with these so called Celeb chefs , were as my Mum fed us (without these herbs etc ) like me I just like plain food ,a good steak pork chop etc ,then a simple baked potato with home grown veg carrots, peas and such like . Over here in Ireland the favourite is " bacon and cabbage " ,smoked of course with HP sauce on the boiled spuds . So let's here it for plain simple food yeah

Bob, cabbage, with chopped up smoky bacon, a knob of butter, and a sprinkle of nutmeg, I first had that in a Bath hotel with a Barnsley chop etc,  so impressed with the cabbage I asked for seconds and thirds, and the chef came out and gave me the recipe for it. I bet your mam put thyme and sage and bay leaf in the stews of our youth, mind you it would be fill your boots on that and a thick slice off the cob, mmmm, then out to play .

My wife just loves the cookery TV progs, her latest favourites being Jamie Oliver & the American squeaky voiced Ree Drummond's "Pioneer Woman". In passing, I sometimes remark "That looks a nice recipe, you going to make it ?", to which the standard reply is " What ! Just for the two of us !?!", or "Haven't got all the ingredients" !! When I suggest making a list to get 'em,  I won't mention the response ! I sometimes wonder why she likes these programmes, but then realise I like the  MotD but don't play anymore !! John (JKW)
