Yes folks some educated economic professor stated because there is only 2 (if lucky) are left living in the ""family" home and you are not going to downsize "that they (oldies)should pay a higher tax for their home" This will allow the young couples/families have a house etc bigger than the one they have now cos we'll move out.....if the fecking Government built enough affordable housing and also stop giving away the ones they have to migrants etc ...this guy(sorry)professor runs a web site called ,no your not going to believe ,Daft.com..say no more .So Professor Ryan go and take a running jump!! And grow up...other than the mature(old gits) like myself who would live in a part of the country with only 4 buses a day ,one shop ,two pubs ,post office about to close and no Garda station ,all the people under 40 have migrated to foreign fields

Bob, you can bet your bottom dollar that this loony professor would not surrender HIS house to a young family when he retires (or is he retired on a massive pension already?) cos he NEEDS to live in a luxurious country retreat with multiple double bedrooms for himself and his little poodle dog because of his superior education and status. This is definitely a "not in MY backyard idiot" who should be turfed out of his des res and put in a pokey 25th floor rat infested 1 bed council flat, preferably in the inner London borough of Muslimistan. With luck he will disappear overnight.... My advice to him and all others with the same mindset as him is to go to Muslimistan, where he and his ilk would not go down at all well, and see how long he survives in there..... millisecond 1 or 2 ???

The trouble is some ideas, which are sound in principle, are put into action in the most stupidly, unplanned and uncoordinated manner. Let's take Bob's bedroom tax he speaks of here in England. in principle it is a GOOD idea. There are far too many people living in council accommodation or subsidised housing with more rooms than they need and, in many cases, more rooms than they could afford were they working!! So; we have all these people with spare bedrooms they don't need anymore. Many such people have been in these homes for decades and their kids have grown up and moved out or their parents have died. Meanwhile thousands of young families are either crammed into accn that is too small for their needs or are waiting for a roof over their heads. Now; here's the rub. None of the families living in council or subsidized/rent free housing identified as having spare rooms they don't need should have been charged the so called "bedroom tax" UNTIL they had been offered alternative smaller accn in their local area and refused it. No one who had a "spare room" which was used for children's visits from estranged marriages, for service folk stationed away from their parental homes or for people who had clear medical needs for such a room should have been penalised.BUT: with typical political incompetence, in they went all guns blazing and ruined a perfectly reasonable financial savings plan by ineptitude and over zealous enactment.

Yes David ,your observation is spot,a friend of my daughter had to vacate her 3 bedroom council house to down size, only problem with her is she is disabled, and she used the small box bedroom for various bits of equipment. Now she has it all in the hall causing a hazard, but her old house which she vacated is still not occupied .The ideas look great on paper but as you remember from our days in service once H hour/plan starts anything happens and the councils are so inefficient at implementing things that a good idea imposed by cretins falls short of the objectives of planning
