Government spending review ??????????

November 25, 2015

The trouble is we are still INCREASING the national debt, year on year, despite the austerity cuts thus far. It is easy to be cynical about what Osborne cuts and what he ring fences but it bis only ever easy when it is not us making the decisions. And there are some very difficult decisions to make. He is on a hiding to nothing, the flak will come from whatever quarters are adversely affected and from the opposition who clearly have a more successful economic history than Osborne!! I THINK NOT!  I don't agree with ring fencing overseas aid, I don't agree with overseas aid in the first place while we are in such dire economic straits, truth be told. BUT; it isn't easy. Noone wants to see cuts to the NHS (the biggest waster of resources ), defence has already been cut too far in the opinion of many of us, the police are on their uppers according to them, education also. Where DOES he cut, where does he make savings apart.  from overseas aid which is 7% of GDP??? £200 BILLION goes on the welfare and pensions bill alone. Another £125 billion or so on health. We have to start living within our means or our kids and grand kids will be left to pick up the pieces. I don't profess to know the answers. I DO know I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions and listen to the flak. Whatever he does will be wrong in the eyes of 50% of the populace. In my opinion, in all of this, he should just remember that the safety and security of the nation is paramount and we face the biggest threat to national security in many decades.

Government spending review ??????????

I wonder what happened to the spearhead battalion, yet another military idea  pushed down the plughole by our inimitable bean counters , who really don't know how many beans make ten. Only three days after the new plan to have basically two 5000 strong  brigades of specialist troops etc, it is quietly announced that the largest warship in the Royal Navy , in fact the flagship, which only last year had a £65 million pound refit after taking over the helm from our last carrier HMS Illustrious is to be scrapped in 2018 at least two years before the two aircraft carriers on the stocks are ready, what was that about keeping the country secure, Oh I am sorry I seem to have lost some beans, or could it be marbles, but don't forget we must stay alert, because our country needs lerts, one shilling.
