Junk Mail

June 26, 2015

I opened my mail this morning and it was mainly JUNK. Now that's almost liveable with, BUT;  what REALLY gets up my nose is the fact some of the a*sewipes insist on printing your name and address on inside order forms. Obviously the marketing ploy is they believe some people are deterred from ordering from the mail slots because they might have to write their own name and address on the form. I have OCD!!! I am REALLY security conscious. I read an article in the DT by an erstwhile head of CID fraud in the Met. He said some fraudsters specialise in data collected from bins  or other rubbish dumps. Apparently they create a computer file of info gathered on people , names., addresses, postcodes etc. Then they look for other titbits such as DOB et al and eventually they have enough data gathered to take you to the cleaners. I NEVER put ANYTHING in the bin that has ANY of our details on it. SO, I have to go through every one these freaking things to shred our address and other details printed on the forms. Grrrrr!.

David, while on the subject of personal data being captured via electronic means, I used the chiminea on the top patio to destroy all my personal letters of all types totally by fire, especially financial and health, and never let anything with such data to go on the web, except, of course, my links on our website, and even then, I check it all before commiting it to flame or dustbin. Seems to have worked so far, while I seem to have no control over some intruders trying to capture personal data on the internet and phone. I also use the phone protection systems which are available on t'internet, and NEVER respond to any London  dialling code, which is obviously the home of these ne'r do wells. I echo your sentiments totally!

Having a wood burning stove I/we don't have a problem ( well not yet) but everything from old bank statements to bills from the utility companies get burned ......it is the phone calls from the far east ( Viet Nam etc) about my/our lap top being faulty ( even when its not switched ON )  normally I'm gentle with them #### OFF  once or twice gets the message through !!!!!!!!

It is something I was getting too, from the far east, for a long time, until I started using the software available on nearly all computers etc, which lets me automatically put such calls and their contents into a trash can for deletion immediately. The only pity is tho, that the same software is not set up to delete the actual senders physically, too.

Tom further to your comments on cold calling (computer/lotto etc) we seem to be lucky in Tipperary ,at the moment my daughter is over with her kids ,and she commented that we only have calls(phone) from friends and family and that she is driven daft by calls in the UK (Rochdale)...now I know now why it takes so long for her to pick up.(caller I d ) and as for junk mail ,it's now getting ready for the election and all the local politicians have us zeroed in,look out there goes another tree . Talking of kids I never relied that they eat so much junk ,and as opposed to us eating our crusts , my chickens are being fed well.

Bob, Just note the caller's number and block it before you put the phone down. Or use one of the companies who will block it for you. I have done it many times..
