New Bridge Over The Mersey

Crossed the new "Mersey Gateway" Bridge at Runcorn for the 1st time last week - very poorly signposted towards it from the old bridge side, and NO indication at all that it's a TOLL bridge until you've left it ! I did know from on line sources that it was to be tolled, but to strangers, no chance - VNPR cameras "clock" your use of the bridge, again, no warning. Indeed, a sign then read "£2 toll, to be paid by midnight the following day - for details of how to pay, see website". I suggest such info isn't much use to some OAP or others who don't have access to a computer ! Anyway, on reaching my MiL's, I went online to pay, to discover the website wouldn't / couldn't accept my payment, but DID warn me that failure to pay would result in an £80 fine !! I eventually found a number to ring, & on explaining the website's problem was told "Oh, we know, we're having problems with it, & have been for ages !!" Needless to say, I bet they wouldn't have any problem sending out the £80 fine EACH way for me being unable to pay on line through no fault of my own ! John (JKW)

Number plate recognition (easy way to print money) The M50 motorway around Dublin disposed of the toll booths when they passed (sold) to a Spanish company,at the time the toll was €1.90 ,now if you don't have  an account it's €3 and yes you've only 24 hours to pay . But if like me you have an account on your credit card €2 ,now considering that to get to the airport, ferry port or north of Dublin or visa south of said city it's feckin expensive for the casual driver .Heres the part Dublin/Government like ,they received over €500 million from the Spanish company and said company has to maintain the motorway,as I said easy way to print money ,the motorist ripped off again.

I reckon anyone who came up with easy to fit  revolving number plates (different reg no's on each "face" !) would make as much money as the rip off organisations do ! John (JKW)

It's all a con. We have the Humber Bridge, costs £1:50 to cross it. I pay £45o pa road tax why should I pay to cross a freaking river. People who are visiting prisoners in HMP Hull get free crossings, people going for cancer treatment at Hull Hospitals Trust don't. How fair is that! The world is mad!! Thought I might have a rant day today Lol.

I agree to your comment David, the country is on a slippery slope and I always thought that the Road Fund License was meant to pay for all roads, lanes, etc in the UK, just goes to show how evil some builders are....GREEDY.
