Bob, I had thought this had run its course and I wouldn't contribute any more. But I can't help myself. You've failed to mention that students from the EU can attend the universities in Scotland without paying any fees. But any students from England have to pay the full amount. This is down to Wee Eck. (Salmond). The SNP love to antagonise the English and they succeed. We have someone from Yorkshire who lives not far from where we live, He's a regular contributor to the local newspaper. He's a born again Jock! A zealot. He's all for independence. I've sparred with him on a few occasions through the letters column. But he won't accept that Scotland can't sustain itself financially. Don't judge us by the antics of these clowns. Mind you, they orchestrate their propaganda very efficiently. Although these peasants love to sing "Flower of Scotland" they fail to take into account that Edwards army was mainly comprised of Lowland Scots. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of years when the army pulls out of Scotland. Redford barracks and Glencourse barracks just outside Edinburgh are closing as well as other military sites. This will be a hit on the local communities in both employment and economy. The SNP also want to get rid of the Trident replacement and close the Clyde submarine base. The UK government are in the process of moving all the Royal Navy nuclear submarines up there. There will be 12,000 people working there when this is complete. Can you imagine what this would do to the local economy if this were to happen. I raised this with the zealot in the newspapers. His response? "what's a few jobs" Finally, I saw in todays Scottish Daily Express that Sturgeon has said there will be no independence referendum in 2017. She knows she will lose. She's a political chancer. People in Scotland are seeing through the SNP. Even their own supporters don't want independence.

Many reasonable Scots seem to spend a good bit of their time apologising for Sturgeon's rhetoric and the minority rabid nationalists' anti English hyperbole. I think most of us have seen through it all now, the rhetoric and hyperbole I mean! Sturgeon is a gifted orator but she lacks strength of character, any sense of realism, the ability to put the electorate before personal ambitions (apropos independence) and the nous to accept that Scotland actually gets a reasonable deal out of Westminster. She is making a fool of herself with her constant threats, "we WILL initiate another independence vote" she says, "when will that be" asks the interviewer, " well not in 2017" she responds. What she means is; she knows the decision is not hers to make, she knows, given the current financial situation in Scotland, independence isn't fiscally viable and, I believe, she knows a second vote would result in another snub from the electorate and ultimately political suicide. There was, some time ago it has to be said, a growing distaste amongst very many English folk for the plethora of anti English sentiments emanating from  some parts of Scotland. This was particularly so during the lead up to the independence referendum when the bully boy tactics of the nationalists was at its height. Nowadays the vast majority of English folk take very little notice of Sturgeons rants and rubbish. Her antics make for good discussions on forums such as these but the overwhelming number of folk simply can't be bothered with her anymore. The brutal truth of the matter is, the UK needs to be unified as we leave the EU. It is in all of our interests to stay together, to speak with one voice, to forge unified trade deals etc etc. An independent Scotland would not be admitted to the EU, Spain alone would see to that, let alone not being able to meet the fiscal entry requirements. An independent Scotland sans the support of the rest of the UK and the EU would be a disaster. I believe the majority of good folk of Scotland know exactly that.

Here in happy holiday land there 4/5 couples from Scotland and they all hate Nicola , ok they are mostly retired and financially sound and in agreement with the status quo and don't want change. There are problems that like the ones in Germany(migrants) that are not getting aired by the media/press for fear of sanctions from her idiot followers, what they are is mostly incompetent government, usual say one thing and doing a 180% turn about ,and politicians promise then do there own thing when in power Democracy I think ??

She also fails to mention that 87% of Scotland's revenue comes from the UK treasury through the Barnett formula. The general view up here is that if she calls another independence referendum she will fail miserably. A former SNP First Minister has also told her to give up on it and concentrate on governing Scotland. Of course she ignores all these views because she's completely out of control. I've emailed our local MSP (Conservative) and told him I'm leaning towards another referendum which she will lose and hopefully she'll resign. She's a scaremonger and chancer and a great manipulator of the facts and numbers.. I believe she won't do this as she enjoys the good life to much and enjoys having her snout in the trough. As I've said before, read the Scottish Daily/Sunday Express on line (it's free). They just hammer her. Alfie.

Oil revenues plummeting, over 21per cent of the work force in the public sector, huge debts (£14billion)increasing year on year, £1500plus extra income pp pa from the treasury needed, huge mounting pressures as more fiscal responsibilities are transferred to the Scottish government and a growing reluctance to now accept what was previously demanded under the greater autonomy agreement arrived at post the independence referendum. A blanket veto on an independent Scotland joining either the EU or the single market, Spain alone has pledged to block any such moves because of their Catalan pressures. Sturgeon always uses Norway as an example of a small, independent state outside of the EU but inside the single market and doing very well. She fails to mention Norway has untold supplies of natural ore and oil, they pay £6 billion to the EU coffers to trade in the common market using their massive ore deposits as bargaining tools, they have one of the highest per capita immigration rates etc etc. She lives in La La land.

Here we go again. There's been a poll carried out up here re the EU. 82% of Scots have no interest in the EU and consider it a gravy train for politicians. The majority of those who voted had less than one brain cell!
