What Price reaching 70

How to start a discussion on being a person  reaching THREE  SCORE  & TEN  years of age ?? Do I wish the person happy birthday, yep !! well done you've possibly outlived your parents, who'd thought that when running round Soltau or the streets of Northern Ireland. There are a couple of advantages, you can't get called up to defend the country (let the kids have a go ) you get a winter fuel allowance (I think ) you get a bus pass on out of rush hour travel, looking good so far eh! Let's put a few disadvantages on being on this earth SO long, well IF your able and have a motor car your going have to replace your driving license, with a Doctors note (here that cost €40) , your car insurance will more than likely cost more (why) ..Come now you'll say I get a discount on haircut (special times during the day) there's the same at the movies ,early doors shows! You also get prescriptions at a discount for your age ailments that you possibly a crude over your working life paying your TAXES. So what things so far are evening themselves out ,you WIN a few and you LOSE a few (here's my favourite feckin word)  BUT WHY should you have to pay extra just because of a birthday , I know if you've been canny with your finances you can possibly afford to pay these increases, that's not the point I'm trying to make,us baby boomers are out living the ancestors, what now if 70 is as 50 was a few years back ,doesn't that mean we are fitter than our ancestors also think of all those taxes we have and are still paying,OK we might cost more too ( my brother & dad passed in their 50's) so they never got their old age pension, and yes I've had major help from the NHS and will need meds  til I depart this earth . Now here's something that is entangled in this subject matter ,(yesterday I was flying from Liverpool at 6 am back home to my home in Ireland) now you don't think you'd run into a fellow Carb and his wife (both good friends) waiting to fly to Spain, now this couple have holidayed with us (Riley's) in Goa during the previous years but had not been there  for a couple of years ,so I asked are they there this coming winter,NO  can't afford the holiday insurance TOO much as he's 73 and has a condition which they (insurance) want unacceptable premiums for . Not saying I'm rich but comfortable so the extra costs of reaching a BIRTHDAY will not stop me/us from enjoying what time we have on this planet to the full,my insurance has increased buy €115 a year to €265 , so when you consider that I'm covered in the UK also in Germany where we have kids and our holiday in Goa pays for itself, and the therapeutic SUN  during January/February charges the batteries for the rest of the year. Okay how do  I finish off this Rant ,easy peesey WHY when you've payed your way over over 55years (and still are) with your luck behind the wheel and on holiday never made a claim on the MANDATORY insurance have pay upto another THIRD increase because I'm 70 !!!!!!!!!! What about my human rights????

Insurance premiums are always calculated on the inherent risk factors specific to the insured, that bis a fact of life and has always been so. Present a higher risk and you will either pay more or be refused. The fact is, older travellers with certain conditions DO present a higher risk to the underwriters than many other people. That might not seem fair but life is generally so....unfair. I pay very low insurance premiums on both our cars. We live in a  small cul-de-sac, in a low crime area village, one car is garaged the other is parked on our private, sole use drive. My wife and I both have maximum no claims bonuses, we are both over 65, neither of us clock up excess mileages ergo we are low risk and attract low insurance premiums. Travel insurance is no different and applies the same principles. Even young healthy people with no known diseases, ailments or afflictions pay more if they want insurance for high risk activities apropos of which, Robert, that's why young people pay up to 15x more for their car insurance than us old codgers. It is swings and roundabouts my friend. the rough with the smooth. As an aside, what human rights??? When you get old you have no human rights!! just joking!!
