Will an extra couple aircraft make any difference or is it all hype ?????????

The Minister for Defence is in Cyprus spouting loads of manly speeches on camera ,loads of pictures of bombing ,mostly of the same place (sat nav broken) an oil field ??? Yes we've been saved ( Europe) by the actions of our minuscule number of aircraft flying bombing missions. What difference our R A F will make flying 40 year old planes round the clock sorte now in Syria ,now I'm not denigrating the job of our service personnel ( lucky to have them) my complaint is the present governments defence cuts , then they climbe on the back of the excellent job done by the services claiming to savers of civilisation as we know it all over the media. To defend the country costs money ,all freedoms cost, we are lucky to have the military history carrying on into the present days Armed Forces,to cut to bone because they want the top 1 or 2 % of tax payers can have a tax cut ( have another roller) is now making us look and (minister) sound a laughing stock .please no more Hero stuff on the back of our under paid Over Stretched forces ,and make the super rich pay a few bob more !!!!

The answer to your question is yes. Point 1; we have the most accurate laser guided air to ground missile of anyone, including the USA and Russia. Point 2;  whilst the number of aircraft we can make available is about 10/12 at most, the political kudos of being SEEN to be  supportive of France and NATO and being SEEN to be united with our allies in the will to uphold the latest UN mandate of using every possible means to destroy ISIL, is a major reason for our participation in the bombing campaign. The alternative is to do nothing and to adopt Corbyn's approach of seeking a political settlement with ISIL..............that is bound to be a success!! Will the combined air power of Russia, USA, Jordan, France, the UK and others wipe out ISIL? No it won't. But it can and will denigrate their supply lines, take out their leaders and generally halt their advance. The Kurds, armed with ancient weapons and a massive amount of courage and conviction, have taken back over 200 towns captured by ISIL. We talk about having boots on the ground yet we fail abjectly to support these brave flip flop warriors because.....wait for it..... Turkey considers them a threat!! The 70k Free Syrian forces Cameron speaks of is a farce. There are, most likely, that amount fighting Assad but they comprise a disparate, rag tag and bobtail  array of about 80 or more different factions, all with different agendas, different loyalties and different goals. fighting ISIL is NOT their priority, fighting Assad's forces IS! the main faction's leader has publicly stated that we should concentrate our airstrikes on the real enemy.......Assad's troops.  Can we truthfully expect these militia to be the troops on the ground we need?? No, no and no again!! In complete contrast the Kurds are loving the bombs that hit ISIL and actively use the campaign to their advantage, advancing on ISIL strongholds immediately after they have been bombed. So why aren't we helping them, arming them and generally supporting them?? Rhetorical question. We know why! This whole issue is a dog's breakfast, a complete shambles. There are so many different agendas, conflicting goals, disparity of opinion on the best way forward  that, in the current climate, there can never be a successful outcome. The West needs to absolutely concentrate on eradicating ISIL. They should leave Assad alone until ISIL has been destroyed, only then can they ever hope to reach some sort of agreement on Syria generally and whatever shape or form that agreement takes will require Russian approval.

Some very good points there, especially about,  1) the Brimstone missiles we have (the Yanks are VERY jealous of them I'm told!), they're THAT good, & at £100k a drop we don't aim (geddit !!) wasting them on low key targets ! 2nd, I particularly agree with Dave's last point - leave Assad alone until ISIL  have been decimated to the point of destruction and then, only then, engage in political discussion to solve the Assad issue - I personally reckon his control/governance of his country was OK, albeit not the sort of democracy we in the West favour, although until the "Arab Spring" it worked, but it's probably gone beyond recovery now, and a dignified exile for him is the best solution to the problem, AFTER the scumbag ISIL terrorists are beaten to a pulp. Following on from my post above, I was sent the following as an email - makes for very interesting reading !

The Assad family belongs to the tolerant Islam of Alawid orientation.
• Syrian women have the same rights as men to study, health and education.
• Syria women are not forced to wear the burqa. The Sharia (Islamic law) is unconstitutional.
• Syria is the only Arab country with a secular constitution and does not tolerate Islamic extremist movements.
• Roughly 10% of the Syrian population belongs to one of the many Christian denominations, all fully integrated in Syrian political and social life.
• In other Arab countries the Christian population is less than 1% due to sustained hostility.
• Syria has banned genetically modified (GMO) seeds, stating his decision was made in order “to preserve human health,”
• Syria has an opening to Western society and culture like no other Arab country.
• Its media and universities openly debate the global power elite’s influence in things. This means that they fully grasp the fact that real power in the West lies not in the White House but rather with the complex and powerful grid of elite think-tanks and central banks.
• Throughout history there have been five popes of Syrian origin. Religious tolerance is unique in the area.
• Prior to the current civil war, Syria was one of the only peaceful countries in the area, having avoided major wars or internal conflicts.
• Syria was the only country that admitted Iraqi refugees without any social, political or religious discrimination
• Syria clearly and unequivocally opposes Zionism and the Israel government.
• Following a massive oil find in Syria's Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1967, Netanyahu recently asked Obama to recognize its annexation of the territory. To consolidate its hold, plans are afoot to quadruple Israeli settler numbers to 100,000.

And the most two important points:
• Syria is one of the only countries in the Middle East without debts to the International Monetary Fund ( Pre-invasion Libya & Iran the only others )
• Syria is the only Mediterranean country which remains the owner of its oil company, with an oil reserve of 2,500 million barrels, the operation of which has avoided privatization and is reserved exclusively for state-owned enterprises.

So now ask yourself, why are we truly attempting to overthrow yet another government? What are we hoping to fix here?

1 shilling.   I see in todays papers that we have a shortage of spares for our latest  fighter/bomber the typhoon, so at the moment we are cannibalising four of our of our present stock just to keep those flying from Cyprus in the air. The tornado GR 4 by the way is the only bomber that we have, that is capable of doing the job, isn't it amazing?? we have the most up to date pinpoint missile that are the envy of all our allies, yet the only system we have to deliver it is as Bob said 40 years old. They have just stopped the disbanding of a tornado squadron to carry out these missions. so now our couple of extra aircraft has multiplied, and morphed into a dozen or so Tornados and about ten typhoons , this of course , as Bob espoused means a nice jolly for the  Minister in Cyprus to get a bit of bronze,y and a nice 40 years old Keo brandy. hey ho hey nonny nonny no. 1 shilling

With all the valid posts some very good point yes we have a ad fab missile ,yes Asad is carrying on from his dad,oil is in the equation, and everyone living out there want a bit of the action. The latest info is that Scumbags have moved their HQ to Libya ,so however  accurate these missiles are ,wrong country twiddle Dee twiddle dum .......the mission wipe scumbags off the face of earth ,as John stated ......not wanting to thro Benz on the fire, remember all those nice young Men mixed in amongst the Million or so migrants which filled the papers/media over the last year were are their alliance with ????and with EU documents etc ,and we have enough home grown scumbags to worry about . How to defend the country ,well the MOD is too waste full have been since  its conception ,remember the millions wasted on equipment that couldn't do the job,one example was the multi fuel engine when a simple diesel one like the Germans, and it would improved serviceability /combat training . As previous posted ,if you want a military to do all the jobs thrown at it wherever /whenever in all climes    A) you need to give them the equipment to do the job ..........B) recruit /train a flexible armed forces of decent proportions to the UK population ..............C) make defence contractors more cost effective .......the old saying if you pay peanuts our brave service personnel will pay the bill with their lives ......
