Freddy, the only "OLIVER"  I recall in the 3DG was called Ted at the time, and from Caernarfon, North Wales, in the 1960's. So that is not him I do not think.

There are two 'Olivers' in B Sqn 1965 F&C. One I knew because he was Troop Cpl 3Troop B Sqn. He had been hiding in the Tech stores for about 15 years so it was a shock to his system to be sent out into the field. Cpl Oliver 'you lead' was not his favourite phrase! Sgt John Mac Macpherson the Troop Sgt told me subsequently that he was the proud father of seven children who were all turned out like new pins. So it is not him. Too old. Freddy

I remember Ted Oliver of MT Troop in Detmold as a great guy, with the "thickest" Scouse accent any Welshman ever had ! He was definitely from Caernarfon, North Wales, and if my memory serves me right, he was caught purloining a jerry can or two (!!) of Benz, either from the Fuel Compound in Detmold or floggin' them to the Germans  when on exercise from his 3 Tonner ! A court martial was mentioned, but being the sweet talker he was (is ?), I seem to recall he got off lightly by spending some time in Joe DuDa's "hotel"instead. Some of these facts might be distorted somewhat, although I think not, but anyway, why let the truth get in the way of a good story !?! John (JKW)
