Hi,I feel like I've gone back in time,it's been great looking through the photo albums to see so many old faces.I made a mistake when the regiment amalgamated,I should have transfered but, had I done so I would never have been the last serving 3rd Carabinier to leave The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Two of the finest regiments made THE finest regiment in the British Army today.Anyone who remembers me please drop a line.

Its been great reading through all these messages, it brings back the good times and the bad, although I was in the Regt Band (1962 - 1971)I did get to know quite a few of you boys from the regiment and had some good laughs, its great too know that a lot of the OLD BOYS ( CARBS ) have registered on the site.

Just surfing the net and came across your great web site - slightly gobsmacked as the old memories started flooding back to when I was young and had hair! Served in A Sqn 3rd Carbs from 1964 until 1969. Was in Detmold then Cyprus (incl 2 minor jaunts to El Adem) before getting demobbed in Chester. Would love to hear from anyone who may remember me from that time which now seems to be getting more dim & distant every day. Also have a collection of photos which may be of interest.

Hi, saw your entry on the ARRSE site re 3rd Carabineers and went to your home page. I was Scots DG, joined in 78 and transferred to RMP in 1984. Noticed photos on your site of Pete Chadwick. He was my first Troop Sgt! We were in 1st Tp, D Sqn. I haven't seen him since around 82. I'm a WO2 in the SIB now having had a 3 yr break from the Army. I was only 17 years old when i served in Petes troop..........Christ I'm 43 at the end of this year! What a long time ago that was. I still remember my first FTX in Petes troop. I was the troop Leaders driver (2Lt Bullen.......a Colonel now I believe). Ilmar Staak (I think that was the correct spelling was the loader (may have been ex 3rd) and Cyril Jones was the gunner (ex 3rd). Cyril had a brother in the MT called Tommy. Pete Chadwicks driver was a lad called Paul Bateson who sadly died in the 80s having left the Army.

My lasting memory of Pete Chadwick was that he was an incredibly fair man. Sadly there's not many of that calibre around in the Service nowadays.

Anyway, great site, glad I found it (even though I'm not Welsh!). Could you send my regards to Pete C. He'll probably not remember me, but I remember him and often reminisce of what i would call the 'old days' with my Sgts. I'm sure I bore them to tears, but I'm glad to have joined when I did and wouldn't change it for the world.

Have you tried the SCOTS DG web site? There may be one or two of it's contributors who may be able to help you in your search.

Regards & best Wishes

John Thorburn

Hi Jim,
Delighted to see your site. My dad served with B squadron of 3rd Carabiniers
from 1927 to 1939, when he transferred to 1st Kings Dragoon Guards. He was
then Sgt Cornelius Timothy Buckley. He fought with KDGs in North Africa and
was awarded the DCM. Ended as RSM in 1948, and retired to Ireland. He died
in 1984.
Looking forward to seeing your site develop.
Best Wishes,
P.S. Buckley

Thanks again Jim,

The recent photo's of the memorial and the 3DG reunion, which I imagine took place in Chester, are good to see as there are lots of familiar faces. I was particularly delighted to see that Taffy Edwards is very much in the ex 3DG fold. I was attending the remembrance parade in Birmingham as I was representing the Irish Hussars (QRIH)element of the QRH amalagamation (having been "conjoined" to the QOH, who we were with in Detmold with (they were at Hobart Bks)whilst we were in good old Lothian Barracks on the Klute Strasse. I met Janet Mabbott (nee Kelly) who is secretary to the West Midlands Branch of QRH. I am sure that many will remember her father with great affection.

I was in Germany in August last year and went to see the former Lothian Barracks which is nor converted to flats for "Osies" (East Germans)and other refuges, the bottom end of the square (near the NAAFI)is used as a bus depot and Tech Stores end is the local night school.

Good to see many names that I know, Bob Riley, Kevin Clarke to name only a few.

Seasons Greetings to all.

Ken

Smudge, Thanks for this new means of getting in contact with old friends, I served in the regiment from 1958 and through the amalgamation finishing my service in 1984 at the D+M School in Bovy. I have looked through the Guest book and seen a number that I would love to make contact with, Ken Hanna " you cocky little sod" Ken Day, an old friend and neighbour in Munster, "pity you only want to get in contact with your old B Sqn mates" but I still love yer. Ron, it's been ages, "how's that brother of yours". Last but not least Tom McCarthy you still around scouse and hope you still have that laugh plus at least I was C Squadron. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Hi Jim, Nice site, keep up the good work. Our 4rtr site has been up now for a couple of years and it has been great being able to put old friends in touch with one another. We also have family members of ex-4th Tankies as members so the site continues to go from strength to strength. I have also so set up a Yahoo group which has a restricted membership which we controll and this enables us to keep in touch using mics and speakers through Yahoo's IM. If I can help in anyway get back to me and I will do what I can. Cheers and Fear Naught David J Moffat
