Covid affecting license renewal

March 4, 2021

Since 70 I have to renew my driving license every 3 years ,thankfully it doesn’t cost a penny ,and they’ve scrapped the need for Doctors certification stating fitness to drive ( it cost €40 from the doctor). Now Covid has closed most non=essential businesses so the license office is closed too. That means my license expires now in Jan 2022 ,when hopefully we’ll be able to get a replacement. Now that’s not all ,they closed all the NCT test centres ( Irish MOT ) that effectively made my car expired in Jan but I got it tested in 1st week of March ,and my wife’s car from October last year to the 12th March 2021 . That means because we display our road tax, insurance and NCT in our windscreens ,every now and the we are stopped by the boys in blue asking questions “ why “ the disparity ( that’s if you see a copper) ,one thing they haven’t got “ number plate recognition “ here on the emerald island. Nearly as bad as our days in Germany with essential displays in you windscreen. How are the U K dealing with Covid problems????

Covid affecting license renewal

Bob, "How are the U K dealing with Covid problems????"   - to answer that, we are coping, providing you can use a computer / tablet/ smart phone, because everything these days seems to be done on-line. Either that or or ring up and go through dozens of pressing  button options before, if you're VERY lucky, actually speaking to a real person ! I rang British Gas the other day ( their web site is garbage, even the "Chat Box" doesn't recognise any question you pose), and after 42 minutes of being fobbed off & being put on hold 4 times I insisted on speaking to a Senior Manager - I WAS angry ! The Manager did phone back but basically offered me excuse after excuse, (strikes, shortage of staff, priorities elsewhere, plus the old chestnut COVID). He said he'd opened a Complaint Case & closed it - I replied "Don't close it, I'm not finished complaining yet" ! The upshot is that I'm not happy with the Customer Service provided these days by most companies, but on-line services are working fine - what we'd do without Amazon , Ebay & WhatsApp I shudder to think !
