Tomorrow TM will face ‘The House’  to explain her rationale for bombing Syrian gas storage/research facilities without consulting Parliament. She is in for a rough ride I suspect. The general public seem fairly adamant, by a comfortable majority, that the bombing was wrong and TM’s decision not to first consult Parliament beforehand was also wrong, by an even greater majority. The bombing will of course neither serve to depose Assad or stop him mounting further gas attacks if he is so inclined. I believe however the bombing DID achieve its stated intention of showing Syria, Russia and Iran that the West will retaliate when international laws are broken and innocent civilians are gassed by despots. I believe Obama’s empty threat to bomb Syria after the first major gas attack on civilians  emboldened not only Assad to continue to use gas on civilian targets but also emboldened Putin in his Crimean annexure and his actions against Ukraine. Empty threats are worse than saying or doing nothing but both are seen as inherent weaknesses. Bombing Syria in retaliation for them gassing civilians isn’t an ideal answer by any means. But it was Hobson Choice in my opinion. More rhetoric and threats would have been pointless. Decisive leadership was called for. We needed a meaningful gesture that would show the world we WILL stand up for ourselves. I think TM delivered that. I support her leadership and courage in taking this decision. Indecisive leadership  in today’s volatile world is taken as a major weakness and poses a far greater threat than the PM not consulting Parliament in times of military crises. I hope she is supported by at least her own party tomorrow. As an aside I also hope my planned holiday to Cyprus in May for my granddaughter’s wedding isn’t disrupted!

I agree with your response David, the lot of them only know how to kill, no matter who their victims are, where why or when. As for Putin, HE is a total loon, he only knows one thing......and that is how to kill the innocent.

Tom. Putin wants to resurrect the USSR to it so called former glory and does not care whose toes he treads on, the man is a megalomaniac, and a bully. and as everyone who has an ounce of sense knows, it is when you stand up to them that their tactics rebound upon them. If you don't they will continue to do it, history is littered with examples of  appeasement  that did not work.

History tells you, if don't stand up to bullies worse will come, I will say that Russian mentality since 1917 is that every one is against them and it has been supported by every leader since and Putin is no different, the Russian psyche will not change, we must realise that they do not reason like normal people and will never toe the world line on policy.
