Military Band

October 4, 2019

We all knew Regimental Military Bands in the RAC had been amalgamated into a single RAC band but did you know even that has now disappeared? The former RAC Mil Band is now a part of the ‘Catterick Military Band’ comprising the firmer REME, Kings Div and RAC bands. Seems only the Guards Div and the Light Infantry bands remain untouched. That’s progress for you!

Military Band

Yet another sad indictment of the so called "progress" in today's modern Army - that pumped up feeling that raised the hairs on your neck, the chest bursting with pride each time we stood on the 'square and heard the bands strike up, now no longer available to the current crop of soldiers. Even if we maybe scoffed at the Band ( "bloody stretcher bearers" etc), we all in our hearts thoroughly enjoyed the music even if we didn't know what many of  the tunes were called ! In the Mess of course, they really helped make each "do" the success they always were, providing music with humour and obvious professionalism. How sad for todays crop of soldiers that they'll never experience the joy that the Bands gave us, and that includes the P's & D's of course, intrinsically linked with the Military Band ever since Amazing Grace.
