In Tipperary we have automatic petrol stations which are about 5/6 cents cheaper per litre than manned petrol stations. Okay so you normally fill your tank yourself and then pay at the kiosk, with the auto ones it’s like an ATM ,put your card in then select Benz/diesel and how much you want to pay . Say you put €40 worth of juice but only use €35 you then get your €5 credit back .Yes they are like supermarket who have self service tills BUT they have less staff to man the tills ,so they should give you a discount like these unmanned stations, saving €3/4 every time you top is better for you, plus it’s 24/7 ,also it keeps the costs of driving down.

I agree Bob. Where we live the "Morrisons petrol station" quite often ran out of paper on which  the receipt was to be printed. Which necessitated a visit to the "pay person" in the kiosk, which - in my opinion - negates the purpose of the "ATM type" self service in first place! ......AND no cheaper petrol.   Mickey S. P.S. And I have to take the receipt into the store itself to get the points added. ......moan, moan.....etc. P.P.S. If the paper roll in the "ATM pump" runs out, then -  as there is now only one person in the kiosks - the only saving is to "Morrisons"....Great store by the way. My wife swears by them. (apart from the petrol point that is).

We stopped going to the Morrison's in Leek because the pricing was wrong on so many items. I complained (as I'm wont to do !) on many occasions & although they refunded the money each time I got fed up with the extra queueing this entailed. The stock is good admittedly, & our local Morrison's here is good apart from being small with narrow aisles, which ain't good during a pandemic, so it's mainly Tesco's for us (plus I get free charging for my car ) & I personally do prefer Tesco anyway, always a good selection of books to choose from ( I am a bookworm, especially biographies and modern military stuff). Point taken John. We - Mary & I - have shopped in Morrisons/Tesco's/ Asda.....etc "all over" Nottingham, Wrexham, St Asaph.....!?!    (A LOT) - as, I am sure, have a lot of us ? and I have come to the conclusion that it must be down to the Managers and not the "Brands" in general..(some good, some bad).......... Thoughts ?   Mick.

Agreed Mickey, the manager can make a huge difference to the store. We stopped going to the Tesco's in Uttoxeter because the toilets were filthy - twice I took the Duty Manager into them to show the reason for my disgust & each time there was an improvement but it didn't last. We then went to a different Tesco's,  found a similar problem but ( after complaining to the manager and Head Office) things radically improved and so we continue to give them our custom !  With that said, cos of the lockdown / pandemic, have started on line grocery shopping, first delivery/collection this week so fingers crossed all goes well ( at least OUR toilet is clean !! )  John ( JKW)

Thanks John. Let us know how you get on with the delivery - quality of fresh produce....etc - . Mary and myself considered it about a year ago (still are) and came to the conclusion that we would probably end up with the, near the "sell by date" stuff, or, - even worse - past it !  Then we considered that "after a while" the "pickers" would have a lot to do so would not be so "choosy" (When the managers would no doubt have given them instructions at the outset as to quality ?....etc ) and would just "grab stuff" in order to fill orders in time ! (Pot luck theory !). Have you ever been shopping with your wife and noticed how they Squeeze things or feel the clothes ?  well, if you or I  were doing the job then it would be down to US to decide on which item to pick !........... Mick. P. S. Having said that we get most things delivered these days and it is - for the most part - "pretty good"  lol.

Before the latest lockdown, Carole & I had a system ;  we'd both enter the store, each with own trolley, and split up to browse / choose the shelves,  "armed" with the list ! Later on when wanting to find the other, I knew where to find Carole (in the hair stuff aisle) & she knew where to find me ( browsing the books ). At that point I was usually sent back to replace the duplicate items we'd BOTH put in the trollies thinking the other half would have missed them, lol. This system did work & saved me hanging around waiting (!!!) for Carole to decide on whether or not the ingredients were right, plus I am better at finding the bargains !!  We'll now see if the click n collect system works, although I do enjoy browsing so once the vaccines have taken full effect ( once I've had it ) I'm certain we'll be back to the old routine later on this year, albeit still masked up. Yep, still alive Mick lol. About to start some pretty aggressive chemotherapy for 6 months. If it works I will have a few years more, if not I won’t. Just had blood tests to see if my system will withstand the max dose or not. Fingers crossed. Still positive, what will be will be, no point in being despondent;  anyway only the good die young...so I should live to a ripe old age lol. We still aren’t taking this freaking Covid virus seriously enough. 50% greater transmission, more new cases and hospital admissions than Lockdown 1 and still we allow garden centres and all sorts of stores to remain open under the pretext of being essential. Football players shown on TV hugging one another, all together in the changing rooms celebrating or featured almost daily in the press partying. Here in North Lincs we have one of the lowest rates of new cases in the country but social media here is awash with the sceptics, Covid deniers, conspiracy theorists et al. I estimate about 30% of the nation will not get vaccinated. The u-turn on double doses didn’t help! Hey ho I need to concentrate on me for the time being lol. Stay safe and well everyone. D.

Great to hear from you again David - stay positive & keep your chin up, we're all rooting for you.  Mickey, with regards our first supermarket click n collect from Tesco today, a resounding success ! We arrived on time, into a covered bay, & crates delivered to the car almost immediately, all in logical order too (ie, freezer goods together, bakery products separate, tinned / household stuff & fruit n veg all in their own crates etc) so even unpacking at home a doddle too. Everything we ordered was present & correct, quality spot on, with just one substitution being made  (1x thick cut bacon of the 2 ordered was n/a, so thin cut (bigger pack) given instead ( if a substitution is made, you are charged at the lower price if the sub is more). From arrival to leaving the car park exit took just 20 minutes - my wife would STILL be at the first  aisle in that time if we'd normal shopped ! Overall, very impressed & as David alluded to above, it means far less chance of catching the virus by keeping out of the stores, so until our vaccinations ( when given) have taken effect and things settle down then it's the way we'll be shopping for the foreseeable . Hi Mick, I must agree I am a complete chauvanistic Pig, if I attempt to interfere with Margies shopping trips I would be told to Naff off!! and mind my own business, I only get included when she has forgotten something and it's my fault, I have never attempted to understand females as they are the most frustrating species ever invented and to reason with them is like trying to negotiate with a irate socialist. Luv em all though.

Charlie, Your comments about understanding females is spot on ! When asked by a doctor if I was involved in any dangerous sports, I replied "Well, sometimes I disagree with my wife"  !! John (JKW)
