Sentosa-The Meeting

June 12, 2018

So it happened. 38 minutes behind closed doors with just interpreters present. After all the hype they meet for just over half an hour. According to Trump, in that timeframe, Kim Wrong Un agreed to completely denuclearise. Kim says he’s already half way there. No news on the trade off price for that. Now I KNOW I’m a cynic but even allowing for that I have doubts about this ‘deal’. Kim has achieved what no North Korean leader before him achieved, a face to face meeting on neutral territory with POTUS. If/WHEN the denuclearisation turns out to be a sham Kim can say whatever he likes because no one actually knows what they agreed. It may turn out to be Trump’s moment in history, it may turn out to be a quite epic development and achievement on Trump’s part. I hope it does. Do I have faith in it? Hmm, on a scale of 1-100 I would rate my confidence in what they both say at about 15 or so. I did say I was a cynic!

20 years in HMP made me VERY cynical, but, I'm also, paradoxically, an eternal optimist ! To that end, I'm really hoping the meetings signed declaration between a hated despot & an egotistical President turns out to be sincere in it's application. An end to the "war games" in the area will save the US mega millions, and should North Korea truly "Westernise" & combine their manufacturing "might" with the South, just watch car production zoom skywards - that'll make a change from watching Kim's nuclear rockets zooming skywards  lol !
