Adieu

So, after 10 years of mainly enjoyable participation on the site I bid folk a sad farewell.
Those who follow the site will have noticed the unusual paucity of posts from me during the past few months. For reasons of a personal nature I will no longer be active on the site as a contributor from hereon-in.
I thank Freddy for the astonishingly generous time and energy he gives to the site as the administrator pro bono.
I won’t say goodbye to my brother in arms on the site JKW as he and I will definitely stay in regular contact.. Take care Cliif your contributions are so welcome. I hope the site continues, the lack of contributors to it are a very poor reflection of the number of actual ‘hits’ on the site most months. I often wondered,  as I pontificated on here, how many folk read my posts and disagreed with my opinions on matters but simply couldn’t be arsed to post and say so. No matter. The wheel  has turned full circle. I am done.
Best Wishes

David.

David, I have just settled the very moderate fee for the domain name 3rd carabiniers and I am reminded that it is due entirely to yours and others generosity that the site has managed to continue and with the new forum arrangement I would like to say flourish but this is not the case! Where is everybody? The site is well used by members reading the various texts that are entered but seem reluctant to respond. Can anyone provide an explanation? I realise ex carbs are now late 70's or older! but there must be life in the old dogs yet. David has kept the site going with his very erudite observations on many topics and I am sad to see he has said adieu and not au revoir so we shall miss him.

Please show your appreciation of all the work David has done and who knows???

Freddy

To be honest, I've been half expecting David to pack in contributing, but did hope he would put it off for a bit longer. It is what it is, but thanks for all your posts & threads David, no one can say you didn't try to drum up interest and / or encourage participation at every turn - the old saying springs to mind; "You can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink". That sums up the site at present, so unless someone grasps the nettle and starts writing something to post then I'm afraid , like the nettle, the site will wither & die.

Choose any subject, from military to politics, even the bloody weather, but write something for us to read, and don't worry about spelling or grammar, it's a (very !) long time since we all went to school so just hit the keyboard and help save the site from oblivion, PLEASE.    John (JKW)

Sorry to hear that Dave will no longer use this site, every post was of interest and I certainly enjoyed them and learned from them.

Some people are just good/effective communicators and Dave is one.  As for others on the site not posting well I just think that it is to be expected for all sorts of reasons. Cant blame folk for not posting, especially on this site because I do think that age has got something to do with it! Certainly some folk are just not as good communicators than others, some might be embarrassed because they cant spell or they think what they have to say others would think it boring, lots of reasons. As I said though, age. I remember my dad as he got older 70 plus, he just stopped communicating, he would read the papers but wouldn't say much.

As they say,"if you dont use it you loose it" thats not the site I am talking about but the art of communication.

I reckon that I would be younger than most members of this site, starting my army career as a Scots DG and not a Carb.

I came across this site by chance and when I seen that two members had been my SSM whilst I was in Sennelager then I felt compelled to join. If this site does end then I would just like my old SSMs know, thank you, you both had a positive impact in my life. for example, my A sqn SSM, the importance of paying attention to small details. It was a pain at time but years later it was right and I still use it at work now.

Thats all for now as its nearly time for my supper

Hope that Dave comes back, All the best

Cliff
