Cpl Robert Bruce

Robert served with the Regiment at Lothian Barracks Detmold 1962 -1968. He has been thinking about old comrades particularly those that died due to accidents on exercises and wonders if anyone remembers any of them. He recalls casualties in B and C Squadrons during his time with the Regiment. Robert ended his career as a tank Commander in B Sqn.

I'm certain Cpl Robert Bruce was known as Bob Bruce, & if so I remember you Bob - at the time I was a fellow Cpl, first in A Sqn & then in Recce Troop up until the time the Regiment split up going to Cyprus, Libya & Chester, which really caused many of us  to lose track of each other IMO. With regards deaths on exercise Bob, I recall Tpr Robbo Robertson dying having turned his Land Rover over during a rally, others have faded from my memory - if you can tell us some names that you recall it might help. Anyway, great to know you're still knocking about Bob, there's not many of us left ! Best wishes,   John , ( you might remember me as John Webster who played football & boxed a bit).   John (JKW)

Hi John,

It's good to get back in touch been talking with Fredrick Peall today who kindly got in touch and had a lovely chat on the phone.Bringing back many fond memories .As you you know I got around the the Squadrons a bit being in A,C then ending up in B squadron. Hope your doing well John keep in touch

Regards,.Bob Bruce Cpl

It's been a long time Bob ! Did you leave the Regiment before or on Amalgamation ? The last time I remember seeing you is on the tank park in Lothian in '68. What have you been up to since ? Jobs you've had, place (s) you've lived, marriages (one of us said he was on his 4th !) and how's Civvy Street treating you ? I did the full 22 years, plus 3 Boys Service, followed by 20 years as a Prison Officer at HMP Liverpool and can honestly say that, although they were the best years of my life, I'm glad I'm retired and wouldn't wish to be back in again the way things are in either the Army or HMP - they've both changed so much ! I got married in '68, still with the same lass , 2 grown up daughters (both married) and still follow the Reds (that's Liverpool FC, not the pretend Reds in Manchester !).

Anyway Bob, that's my life in a nutshell, so over to you Bob, I look forward to reading what your life's been like. Take care & keep writing ! John (JKW)
