Living Legend Of Aviation

I would like to use the auspices of this social media platform to offer my heartfelt and sincere congratulations on the impending  inauguration of Prince Harry into the Living Legend of Aviation hall of fame. The award, sponsored by Kiddie Hawk Air Academy Colorado, (no me neither) will see the Prince take his well earned place alongside heroes and previous recipients of this prestigious award including Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.
Some (seemingly most of the top military vets et al) may mock the Prince’s apparent intended acceptance of this ‘honour’ not me, I say nay, twice nay and thrice nay.
The award will repose alongside his ‘I Killed 25 Taliban’ award in his Hollywood mansion.
Well done Harry, hip hip hooray…..Henry!

Living Legend ? Do me a favour, his legacy is that of absolving himself of any royal responsibilities & choosing to live abroad with his wife who, IMO, has him firmly under the thumb. I used to like Prince Harry but not any more - I lost respect for him quite some time ago, whilst  his brother Prince William ( and Princess Kate) show exactly how we expect a Royal Prince and his wife to perform their duties. Living Legend ? I think not, certainly not in my opinion. John (JKW)

My understanding of Harry’s Afghan tours are as follows.
2007-8 He was deployed as a FAC or similar with RHG/D

2012-13 He was deployed as an Apache Gunner/Asst Pilot. I think he flew 6 ‘combat missions’ as an Air Gunner and was RTU’d early for safety reasons.

Much has been written about his Afghan tours and, truth be told, Harry was genuinely keen to go there, as were most young soldiers of his age. I’m sure I recall reading his final tests scores in flight training were not indicative of him becoming the main pilot of the aircraft at that time. He was certainly the Aircraft No 2 in his deployment with Apaches in 2012.

Like you John I had some respect for Harry as a young man. He enjoyed huge popularity as a young royal and was given a soft ride by the media too. In his later book ‘Spare’, along with his many lucrative US interviews,  a rancour and bitterness surfaced. That bitterness was either extremely well hidden during his ‘pre Meghan’ years or  (more likely)  a manifestation of her undoubted almost subjugation of his erstwhile natural ebullient and personable younger self.

Boasting of ‘numbers killed’ is a ‘common ‘Walt’ trait shunned by most who serve and Harry’s ‘revelation’ in Spare  that he counted precisely his 25 ‘kills’ incited astonishment and derision from his erstwhile military peers. Then there is his ‘aviation’ prowess in Afghanistan. He IS a bona fide qualified Apache Pilot but his deployment role as  the gunner/ asst pilot in 2012  is fairly common knowledge. What on earth would incite him to even consider opening himself up to further ridicule by even considering accepting this nonsensical ‘accolade’.
Perhaps the same character volte face that has seen him traduce the entire royal family, stab his father the King in the back and betray his pre marriage closer than close ties with both William AND Kate.
I was initially saddened at Harry’s familial treachery but these days he and Meghan are not just Royal pariahs they are shunned by most of the nation.
I hope his  soon to be bestowed ‘Living Legend’ status and his Netflix millions compensate him for ‘a life lost’. I very much doubt it.
