The Triples-A Scandal Waiting To Happen!

I ‘stumbled’ across a television report recently about a group of elite, highly trained indigenous Afghan Troops who bravely fought alongside our own troops in Afghanistan against the Taliban.
These Troops undertook some of the most dangerous missions alone or in support of Brit Troops against the Taliban and they were reportedly highly valued by all ranks across the British Army in Afghanistan  …unlike most of the rest of the Afghan Military!
Over the course of nearly 2 decades we apparently trained, funded and worked with 2 units of Afghan Special Forces, CF-333 and ATF-444, collectively known as The Triples.
After the capitulation of Western Forces in Afghanistan to the ‘Rag Tag and Bobtail’ Taliban militia that descended upon Kabul The Triples became THE most hunted targets of the Taliban. Many were hunted down and killed, others managed to go into hiding or escape to neighbouring countries. Those of the elite forces abandoned in the rush of Western Forces to ‘gap it’ from Kabul,  were told to apply for asylum under the Afghanistan Relocation and Assistance Policy ..ARAP.
Some 200 of these brave men escaped into Pakistan but now face deportation back to Afghanistan …to the Taliban. Most have applied for ARAP and been rejected. Appeals have also been unsuccessful. The Government has defended these ARAP application refusals under the  banner the claimants had insufficient proof of the validity of their applications. But it transpires many of these erstwhile elite troops who supported us have glowing references from an array of serving British Military Personnel. That notwithstanding those processing their ARAP claims reportedly refused or neglected to contact the Brit Army referees offering the references and proof of service of the former ‘Triples’ soldiers.

If these men are deported to Afghanistan they face certain torture, imprisonment and/or death. Tom Tuggehardt and Johnny Mercer both Tory backbenchers and former Brit Army Officers served in Afghanistan with these elite soldiers and support their claims  for asylum. The Defence Minister claims, as The Triples were paid and employed as  part of the Afghan Army they don’t meet  ARAP requirements. Yet other British ‘officials’ state, these Afghan Troops reported to and worked exclusively with and for our own military. They were reportedly paid IN CASH monthly by a British Paymaster and there are records [ somewhere] to prove that. It seems to me this is another sad dereliction of duty by our Government towards brave and loyal people whom we simply used and then abandoned when the going got tough! And now, at a time we could make partial  restitution by helping some of these folk, we turn our backs on them…again.

Circa 56, 000 illegal boat people landed on our shores so far this year. Over 1 million others were legally granted asylum here. Yet 200 ex Afghan elite forces who risked their lives daily to support OUR troops are refused asylum even  in the face of deportation to the Taliban.
In my opinion this matter is a disgrace. This isn’t some media inspired ‘puff’ based on rhetoric of hyperbole this story is fact ….I feel deeply saddened that as a nation we could just abandon people who served our country so bravely and loyally.
What do you guys think?

I suppose we can blame Biden for his ridiculous withdrawal timings which led to the scenes we saw in Kabul and the abandonment of our allies as described by David. Britains record in these matters is beneath contempt. At the end of WW2 Cossacks who were fighting for the Germans against Russia surrendered to the British Army. The decision was made to return them to Russia no doubt to appease our erstwhile wartime allies and they were duly loaded on to trains at the point of bayonet and rifle butt to be summarily executed on arrival in Russia or sent to Gulags to be worked to death. Let us hope that we do not let the Ukrainian Cossacks down again.

I replied to this earlier but its not here! So here I go again.

David, just prior to reading your post I had read the it is very likely that the UK will let the "ISIS" brides return home thanks to "Uncle Sam" pressurizing the UK. They will no doubt then sell their stories and profit from the murdering and terror which they were part of. The Afghan troops that supported the West will get nothing and pay with their lives. Troops the world over have always been known as Cannon Fodder, only ever supported if there was any political gain.

As for the Cossacks, they were an SS Division, I think the Nuremberg court condemned all SS due to the many atrocities carried out by the SS, so the Cossacks probably got their deserves.

Also, didnt Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Ukraine all provide SS Divisions. Something which is kept quite just now.

Its amazing how short a memory and how forgiving governments are when they want something.

I read about uncle sam's "Operation Paperclip", the yanks were so forgiving then. The UK probably had the equivalent but I dont know what that exercise was called.

Hi Cliff, re the repatriation of the ‘Jihadi Brides’ I read the same article and my thoughts on it echo yours. The good thing about the ‘bride’, who made all of the UK papers when she sued the Government, is the High Court decision that the removal of her British passport was legal. I doubt she will be returning here anytime soon.
The Cossack issue is complicated. You may have already read the history but if you haven’t already done so google ‘How the Cossacks were betrayed by Britain in World War 11’ it is a serious piece resultant from an article in a historical war publication about South Ukrainian Cossacks. The Cossacks fought the Russians and the article discusses and seems to dismiss the alleged SS connotations of the Ukrainian Cossack units. The thrust of the article however is that the Cossacks surrendered to the Brits and were promised POW status and were then delivered up to the Russians who had publicly declared they would torture kill them….which they did as Freddy writes. Interestingly enough the Cossacks warned of the Russian expansionist plans years in advance of it happening.
Cossacks aside we have a poor history when it comes to looking after those who stood by us or helped in times of war. The Afghan interpreters!

David, Your last comment

"Cossacks aside we have a poor history when it comes to looking after those who stood by us or helped in times of war. The Afghan interpreters!" applies to more recent history too, witness the persecution of Army veterans of N.I., even at this late stage many are worried sick that they'll be charged with some offence whilst IRA bombers & murderers are given "Pardon" letters courtesy of Tony Bliar ( spelling correct !).  John (JKW)
